Creamed cod was one of my favorite childhood comfort foods, mostly because my mother served it over mashed potatoes, which was my favorite childhood food of any type. This version is a little fancier than my mom’s, but still very easy, and can be done in individual portions, or in one large casserole dish. Enjoy!

  1. I am not a huge fan of cod but I know that it is one of the better fish to eat. I do like it fried with fish and chips but can't wait to try this recipe. Chef John is turning everyone into a home chef! Thanks for sharing your cooking wisdom in such an entertaining fashion!

  2. Wonderful, as always. Hey, would you please make Koenigsberger Klopse, north-German meatballs with a caper-anchovy sauce? Delicious!

  3. Chef John I made this for supper. Absolutely amazing combination. As you mentioned best potatoes ever!

  4. My 14 year old son and I made this tonight for the family. What a great dish. Thanks for sharing Chef John

  5. I’ve made this twice now. It’s superb, it’s easy, and it’s the tarragon that pulls it all together. A simple green salad and it’s a complete meal. You can’t go wrong.

  6. So not tarragon foe me, (dill) but otherwise followed to a T. That fish was…… was…

OFF THE HOOK! 😂🤤. Like my little fish pun there?

  7. wow. I made this this evening and it's so shockingly tasty that we thought we were in a restaurant!!!

  8. I know I would LOVE this dish! I grew up with cod fish chowder, with milk, potatoes, onion and cod (ONLY Atlantic cod will do!) so similar flavors. My family lived in Bedford MA not so far from Boston where cod is king! Now I live in the Bay Area, not so terribly far from where you live, Chef John, and cod has been difficult to get here for years. I have many favorite dishes I make (fish stews with tomato, some Spanish style with paprika, baked cod with tomatoes, peppers and Mexican flavors like salsa, also I’ve made Boston fish cakes with salt cod….I’m always on the hunt for it but I rarely find it anymore. Fish markets have gone.
I recently found it at Whole Foods but it’s not a regular item.
Where, oh where do you buy your cod?
Thanks so much for your fabulous recipes and your humor and everything about you!

  9. My favourite Portuguese recipe! I use coconut cream instead of heavy cream to make it dairy free
