Have been thinking about tofu pudding since reading this New Yorker article: [https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023-10-23/tofu-pudding-saves-the-day-at-fong-on](https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2023-10-23/tofu-pudding-saves-the-day-at-fong-on)

Does it exist in LA?

There’s a similar Filipino tofu dessert with brown sugar syrup and tapioca pearls called taho, if you have a Chowking near you.

  2. If you happen to be a fan of the Initial D series, there’s the Fujiwara Tofu Cafe in El Monte. They have tofu pudding as well as soy-based drinks and other tofu-based food.

This recommendation is pretty niche, and you can definitely find better tofu pudding out there. But more interestingly they are tapped into the anime/racing community so you can catch the legendary 86 parked outside from time to time. Thought I’d throw it out there.

Yep! We are lucky to have several wonderful tofu makers in the LA area. The most famous are VP and VK in the SGV. There is also a newish Tofu cafe in El Monte that opened up last year. I haven’t been but it’s on my list…

Most of the time I make my own using Meiji’s Supreme Tofu and some macerated berries. It’s just the best.

Is douhua what you’re looking for? I know you can get that at Asian markets (like 99 Ranch). Usually in the aisle with the soy milk and herbal teas.

    Lmao.

The West Coast, when it comes to Asian food, is unbeatable. Honestly, there’s nothing you can find in NY that you can’t find in LA. If anything, there’s way more stuff here.

In addition to the places mentioned, you can find it at any Dim Sum restaurant.

You might need to Google “Taiwanese dessert” to find a place (ex. Meet Fresh) serving tofu pudding with all the extra toppings, though.
