Hope this is a good place to share. πŸ€—

I recently found out my great great grandmother was the (1918) Orange county home demonstration agent for food preservation and canning.

I grew up seeing modern demonstration agents at the state fair, and always admired their beautiful canning efforts. I was not aware of the historic significance.

It seems to me we are now in need of more agents to teach proper canning methods. I am appalled by β€œrebel” canning. It seems tied to some weird anti-science BS. Hand crafted bespoke neurotoxins anyone?

I looked into the history of home demonstration agents, and apparently they often acted as makeshift nurses, especially during the 1918 pandemic.

Is anyone in this sub part of an extension service? I salute you. 🫑
