What a nice change, these Moroccan Meatballs are really a very good spicy meatball!
Ingredients:
Meatballs:
1 egg
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1/4 teaspoon ginger OR 1 teaspoon fresh ginger root
1/3 cup shredded onion or chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped cilantro (fresh coriander leaf)
2 chopped garlic cloves
1/3 cup bread crumbs
1 and 1/2 pounds ground beef or lamb

Sauce:
3 cups diced onions
4 garlic cloves
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 cups beef broth
1/4 cup raisins
1 cinnamon stick
1/8 teaspoon saffron
28 ounce can of tomato sauce

Oil for frying
Lemon wedges for serving
Couscous for serving or rice for serving
I used a boxed couscous that comes with a flavor packet
I did not add any salt to the sauce, I think it can use 1/4 t of table salt or 1/2 t of coarse salt added to it.
I also simmered the meatballs in the sauce for 15 minutes.
I also made the meatballs and then cooked them the next day so that they could marinate, but that is not necessary.
