Have a few queries for everyone,

1.) I’m looking to get the Doña Rosa Tortilla Press from Masienda (link below), looks like they only ship to the US though. Has anyone been able to find one of these anywhere in Toronto, or know a vendor that ships to Canada?

2.) Assuming I can’t find that particular press, anyone have any press recommendations that can be bought at a store in Toronto, or at least shipped to Canada?

Thanks!

  1. I know that press has gotten some really good press, but the cost is really up there compared to other tortilla presses that are easily findable. If you really want that one, there are a lots of mailboxes or freight forwarders you could go to, but you’re adding some fair cost to something that doesn’t have free shipping.

I’ve used [https://shippsy.com/](https://shippsy.com/) to pick up packages, but they also will ship to you and I know people who’ve used [https://www.cbiusa.com/](https://www.cbiusa.com/) for a mailbox.

My Mexican partner uses a plastic bag and a plate to make tortillas

As other people have said, regular tortilla presses are widely available in Toronto. I think the kitchenware store in St. Lawrence Market has them, but Tap Phong and other places are probably cheaper.

We got one off Amazon a couple years ago. Works great.

They’re all over Prime if you have that.

  6. There are many ways to make tortillas without a press but I strongly don’t recommend any of them. If you use the press more than once it’ll be a worthwhile purchase.

As for buying one – I got mine off amazon. Took a couple of returns because they kept showing up snapped at the hinge (they are cast iron after all). Locally, perola’s in Kensington should carry some.

Nations in the junction/stockyards should also have them.
