In Montreal I had a slice of kouign amann from here https://aukouingamann.com/ and they make it way different than most bakeries. It’s like a big cake circle and then cut it into slices. The entire thing had nice caramelized sugar surrounding it and also a nice hit of salt. I’ve never seen this anywhere else though.

That’s because that’s the true kouign amann, which is a Breton specialty. For whatever reason, people in North America seem to love making “KA” in muffin tins, and that place is in Montreal is the only one I’ve personally seen that makes it the traditional way. Gotta go to northwestern France!

Comfortland in Astoria has it as a special sometimes. Haven’t seen it in a little while but if you shoot them a message on Instagram they might bring it back.
