Can anyone help me locate an owners manual for this thing? And/or tell me how I attach this weight thing? I’ve never canned anything before, picked this up for $10 today, and just wondering exactly how to use it so I don’t mess something up. I have been researching and reading about canning in general, so I know you can only use the USDA or ball recipes, store without rings, etc. Just not sure in this weight thing.

So I don’t have a manual for you, but I may have a piece of useful information. I’m guessing that’s a second hand canner, if it’s not a metal-to-metal seal and has a gasket, definitely replace it before you do any canning. It won’t hold pressure correctly and you’ll lose all the hard work you put into prep. I’ve had it happen to me before. Not fun.

You may also want to get the canner tested at an extension office if it’s second hand.

Lastly, are you looking to replace the weight, find out how many “pounds” it is, or how to use it? I’ve had a weight system that looked very similar from what I’m seeing

I’m sorry but those parts are no longer manufactured [https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/63l8dsbwf0-000582/kenmore-62051020-pressure-canner-parts](https://www.searspartsdirect.com/model/63l8dsbwf0-000582/kenmore-62051020-pressure-canner-parts) . But the weight typically doesn’t need replacing. Also, it doesn’t really attach…it just sits on top of the port.

Ace doesn’t test gauges, your university extension center does that. However, Ace does sell replacements gauges that might fit.

I recommend before you spend too much money on it, take it to your extension center and have them look it over. They can tell you if it’s even safe to use.
