I think this is the first place I’ve seen selling whole true Katsuobushi in Toronto? Does anyone know if this has shown up anywhere else? Or even thick cut Katsuobushi. Excited to try using this regardless.

For reference, I call this “true” katsuobushi because it has gone through a fermentation process. Most of the shaved katsuo flake bags sold in your average supermarket is hana katsuo, which doesn’t go through a fermentation process.

What’s the deal with stuff? Assume it’s some sort of crazy delicacy. That’s like super high end beef prices.

Honestly not a bad price for the real thing. For reference, I know they sell 2.2 lb bags of Hon Dashi at Hmart for $50 which was too expensive for me so I settled for a cheaper one that seems to be more salt and additives than flavor.

You can buy it pre shaven at most Asian grocers, not expensive either. A little goes a long way
