The seal of the can hasn’t broken, but the glass cracked in the side! Does anyone know it it is safe to eat still?

I’m not able to see the crack, but if there’s a crack, you no longer have a valid seal. Even if the crack hasn’t yet made it through the glass, you can’t trust it won’t.

Sadly, I think you need to toss it.

(If you bought a jar of spaghetti sauce and realized the jar was cracked, wouldn’t you avoid eating that, too?)

There can be micro-cracks and outer cracks that do not break your seal. It looks like your rings are still on, though, so are you certain the seal is fully in tact? If it is, then the food inside is technically safe to eat. However, I would be worried about the jar cracking further or shattering when trying to remove the seal, from the air pressure changing. So, if you choose to try to open the jar, please be very careful to not get cut.

Obviously, if the seal is not fully in place, you cannot be 100% certain whether there is any glass powder or shards inside the jar, unless you can safely empty the contents, wash the jar, and check to see if the crack goes all the way through to the inside or not. Personally, I think I would just call it a loss and not take a chance on getting cut when opening the jar, should it further break – or accidentally ingesting glass powder or shards and causing internal bleeding or worse. 🙏🏻🦋
