I got time to kill and I just was in NYC for a week and here’s my honest review of some of the places I tried, it might help others planning a trip.

These are in chronological order in my trip, not ranked or anything.

* **ABC Kitchen:** My wife was begging me to go here because a friend of hers went and was raving about it so I got us a table. Wasn’t one of the restaurants I was looking forward to but I was pleasantly surprised, everything we had was pretty darn good. [We had the crab toast and the tuna tartar](https://photos.app.goo.gl/EaJ9dcBaraLBKEpE6) and split the truffle pizza. I would take the runny egg off the pizza for my next visit but food was excellent.
* **Cipriani Downton:** I had a reservation for Minetta’s Tavern but wasn’t able to make on time so some friends of ours that live in NYC took us to Cipriani’s Downtown and look, I know New York is expensive, but this place was something else. We got some kind of shrimp carpaccio (it was fine nothing spectacular) Eggplant parm (it was really good) and I got the Argentinean Shrimp in Curry with rice (fine, not amazing) my wife had some scallop dish that was again, good but not spectacular. The appetizers were $30 a pop, my main was $50 hers was $60 and we ordered 2 aperol spritz ($25!) a pop. They brought and opened without asking italian still water to the tune of $15 a bottle all said and done the dinner for 4 with just one round of drinks and 2 shared desserts was $500 before any tips. So beware. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t $500 good.
* **Black Fox Coffee:** Stopped here for a quick bite and my wife [ordered an avocado toast](https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Z9991f5NTvv2cYT7) that was $24 (!!) but god damn was it tasty. Egg cooked to perfection, bacon was thick and it melted in your mouth. Coffe was excellent and I got [a breakfast sandwich](https://photos.app.goo.gl/5Z9991f5NTvv2cYT7) that was good but not as good as her meal.
* **Pastis:** Since I was still bummed about not being able to go to Minetta’s Tavern I could get a last minute table at Pastis for lunch to scratch my french food itch. We got escargots (excellent just like they taste in France) the Mussels (also really really good) I got a [french onion soup](https://photos.app.goo.gl/XPyw9HjfhchMZye99) that was also superb. Overall this place was 100% legit.
* **Crown Shy:** This was another reservation I had a while in advance, we were kinda full from lunch so we didn’t order much but since it would cost me money to cancel the reservation we went anyways. We had the bread with the labne which was pretty good. We had the gruyere fritters which were pretty much churros filled with cheese and we also had the cauliflower which was excellent, the star of the show is the [roasted short rib](https://photos.app.goo.gl/XPyw9HjfhchMZye99). They sous vide it how I don’t remember how long and the thing literally melts in your mouth, you’re supposed to make little tacos with the tortillas and the sauce this dish elevated the whole experience.
* **Overstory**: I’d recommend checking in halfway through your dinner in Crown Shy if you want to go to Overstory, it’s like an hour waitlist but the place and the view are worth it. Specially if you go with mild weather and can sit outside 100% recommended. The drinks were good, the bartenders put on a show etc, but the wraparound terrace in what was once the tallest building in downtown NY, it’s crazy at night. There’s food but we didn’t have any. [Crappy panorama of the view from the terrace.](https://photos.app.goo.gl/b2VD27bASBMHsPSG6)
* **Misi:** This is another reservation I had a long time in advance. We were seated at the counter. We ordered three pasta dishes to share: [fettuccine w/ buffalo butter](https://photos.app.goo.gl/XBgNXG9X3KUB6YtWA), the [butternut squash corzetti](https://photos.app.goo.gl/Pwvws3TBF7LGsDtUA), the [Occhi](https://photos.app.goo.gl/Zipjn5pXUU3kpF6q8) and [the whipped ricotta crostini with mushrooms](https://photos.app.goo.gl/oWd7L7UKkEbkWQseA). In retrospect we ordered pasta dishes that were too similar to each other but they were incredible, next time we should order something more diverse. If you’re a tourist please know that this place is a little far from manhattan and there aren’t many train stations super close so the best bet is to uber there.

That’s about it, overall I enjoyed my choices thoroughly.
