Went to Taco Deli for the first time in a long time and they’re featuring a Chicken Tinga taco so I gave it a try.
When the cashier asked which tortilla I wanted I asked them which one they thought goes best and got an immediate response of “I don’t eat it.” 😳

The taco is pretty good. That machengo crust inside the tortilla would probably make anything edible, I wonder if it can be ordered as an add on to other tacos? I would be down to try it with others, it’s great texture and delicious!

Look, I know Taco Deli is expensive, but they actually use quality ingredients as far as I know.
Downvote me into oblivion if you choose, but it’s one of my favorite local go-to spots any day of the week.
That looks delicious! I know tacodeli gets hate on this subreddit, but I think they’re pretty dang good still. That Otto breakfast taco with doña sauce is an absolute Austin classic dish!
Is this tinga taco a limited thing or is it a new permanent item?

I don’t think anyone truly hates taco deli, its just bad value and its turned into a chain when you can get much better authentic tacos or even tysons for the same kind of taco.
Its fine, its consistent, just a little expensive for what it is.

It’s not only the price, which is laughable, but the straight quality. Stringy, poorly prepped beef, greasy ass chorizo, one taco twice the size of the other type of stuff, they’re literally all over the place. They just stopped caring back in 2016 and we all know it.
TD is fucking terrible and hopefully will go out of business soon. They had their heyday. I give them a chance every few months and always leave so pissed off. They left the beef out of my fucking beef taco. They forgot the cheese on another. They put 2 of 4 tacos in the bag. They overcharge. The chicken was so fucked up I found lymph nodes and arterial tubes on the piece I brought back up to them after I gagged on it. I’ve never seen such an inconsistent brand survive this long.
I believe there are so many cheeses that would go better than manchego. I found it clashed a lot-especially with the slaw on top. And I think it was just my bad luck, but I got so sick after that taco! Projectile sick.
It wasn’t particularly warm and chicken is one of those things you can’t mess around with temperature wise.
For all the wrath Tacodeli gets there are several tacos I really enjoy there, but I thought this one was ill conceived.😝

I love their potato and egg breakfast taco. It is so authentic to the source material. I just wished they heated up the tortillas before filling them.

The chicken tinga filling was pretty good. The cheese tortilla didn’t work for me though. Maybe it would be better in a breakfast taco, but the flavors did not work well together well here imo.
