Visited Uchibā the night after Thanksgiving, started with some of the menu items that they don’t have at Uchi & Uchiko. Here are the standouts:
I adore the Perfect Pairs ($11-$16). They’re a like a shot and a small bite combo. I had the musabi & Tepache as an appetizer and the watermelon & sake halfway through the meal. Their musabi is a grilled and glazed house made “spam”. I’ve never had a taste for it other places but this was really tasty, loved the combination of flavors.
There’s not a lot of big ticket entrees, mostly $8-$12 dishes of dumplings, bao buns, skewers, etc. Japanese Tapas, you might say. I’m a mushroom lover so I got the kinoko dumplings. They come with a huge flat crust that stick out from the dumpling like big sails. Never seen a dumpling presented like that. The sheets of crust look like a tent and break down as a fried starch to finish the sauce. Really fun design. I was told only the mushroom dumplings are served like this. Also got a delicious squash spring roll. Plenty of dishes if you want to focus on veggies, as I did, but the bao buns and skewers also looked delicious with fried and grilled meats if that’s more your thing.
If you love the sushi rolls at Uchi the rolls at Uchibā will seem really similar. I’ll always think it’s good value at $13-$15 roll when rolls at HEB are $12 and other restaurants are charging way more. Got the spicy tuna and sake maki, phenomenal as always.

You got so many good things! Love the cremeaux and that last cocktail a lot.
Sitting outside ruins the vibe of the restaurant. Food had good flavor but I was let down with their claim to being an “izakaya”.
This has just moved to the top of my list
Glad you had a good experience. My wife and I had an awful experience at Uchiba and likely will not be going back. It sounds like they are starting to get their shit together?
