Made a grill out of cinder block, I’m fairly new to wood burning so any tips are appreciated!

I’ve thought about doing this exact same thing with an area in my backyard. Did you use a certain plan or anything? Please send updates how it works!

Is this loose stack or grouted? This would benefit from firebrick on the bottom. The kind to line a wood stove would be nice. Not too expensive. Maybe a firebrick backsplash around the perimeter bottom. More mass to hold heat. No rotisserie???

I love this! People are dropping hundreds or thousands on crazy grills and pits (I’m guilty of this) but you can stack some cinder blocks for cheap and go to town. This is awesome. You can change around the configuration or expand easily. These are like grilling legos.

  4. Just be careful if the cinder blocks explode from heat expansion. Trapped moisture in the pores of the concrete, heated then steams then tries to rapidly escape by exploding.

They’re great functionally and cost-wise but those blocks can let off some nasty toxins especially for something I’d be eating

the base will break in the heat after a short time. they just have to absorb a little moisture, then they crack

I would fill them with sand or something. I don’t know how it is where you live, but where I live it seems like you’ve built a really cool home for spiders 🙂

Uh, those should be lined with fire brick on top or those cinder blocks will crack and explode
