So they’re opening a cheese shop down south. Yay!

Except they don’t sell cheese, just cheese plates.

Sigh. https://austin.eater.com/2023/11/28/23979777/antonellis-cheese-austin-shop-opening-south-lamar-cheese-tasting-room

Oh! I have an Antonellis question. My niece had a charcuterie tray from them with small, round, maybe pickled red pepper things? I might have eaten every one of them (okay fine yes, I hogged them all).

What are they? I need more.

The idea of what constitutes ‘South’ Austin is wild.

Well I wish they were also selling cheese but I’ll take what I can get. There are probably valid reasons they won’t sell large blocks of cheese at this secondary location, like space constraints. And the Hyde Park location is only 15 minutes away from this new location.

  4. This is the most just south of downtown energy I’ve ever seen in an opening. They really nailed it. Perfect. No notes.

Is this a capital one commercial?

I just don’t get why every popular austin place needs multiple locations. Like they all want to be torchys or something and be this massive brand when they’re probably doing just fine with their single shop

It’s their business model, I don’t see an issue with this.

They tried a cheeseshop south of hyde park once (Fairground) and quickly failed. Move further south and only serve trays? Hard Pass

Cheese plates + hosting their cheese classes. I’m an avid Antonelli’s cheese class goer and live in Buda, so I’m excited ☺️

You have to go to the Hyde Park location to buy cheese, if you like any from a tasting class?

I don’t see the problem here ? They’ve done market research into what folks are more interested in consuming in that neck of the woods and going after the revenue stream?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t they have a south location on Lamar originally?

I have previously ordered specific cheeses by weight from Antonelli’s for Tgiving and was disappointed to find out I couldn’t do that this year. I guess it’s just a shift in their biz model and hope it works for them. I’d imagine they get a lot of out of town/state business from their Capital 1 commercial and this model must give them more economy of scale and buying power.

Not much in the Union survives, surprising to see them head there. Can think of a few better locations with easier parking and a more inviting atmosphere.

Get your fat ass, figuratively speaking, in the car and drive to the original location and get your hard to find cheese. One hour to and fro is your problem, but worth the effort in the cheese game. I go to Costco and reach only for the imported cheese. For real. Ha

This seems off but this is how well-run businesses are operated, they are ensuring they are expanding with a product that will be immediately successful and low risk, South Lamar area is also difficult to be successful for a number of factors.

I am certain if there is a big market for selling standalone cheese they will offer that in time – I’m in favor of whatever helps them succeed so they can make more money and ultimately afford to lower cheese prices and expand further! Economies of scale!
