My friend in Nagoya ordered both of these. I did NOT enjoy them.

You know it’s authentic when you see the ash tray (popular with the locals!)

I got no problems eating a horse. I’m a big no for whale unless I’m a guest for a native tribe that is legally allowed to hunt whales and they serve it.
gothbread
wouldnt the horse be like a tartare?

Some things just don’t need to be sushi, or eaten in general for that matter. There’s a reason no one consumes whale anymore

Photo #2 is at least quite aesthetically-pleasing…. I don’t like to think I’d reject any food out of hand but I don’t think I could.

Very very interesting….

One time my family and i had the genius idea to go to a whale only restaurant that served whale meat raw, tempura, in a soup, every part of a whale, etc etc and it was the worst night of our life.

I had raw whale in Norway and it was one of the worst things I’ve ever tasted. Raw horse is kind of just meh to me.

I’ve never seen horse posted here at least in the past fews years and now in two days I’ve seen three posts? Controversial I suppose, but it’s not terrible by any means and not much different than cow haha. It’s funny one of my few posts I’ve made on here were on another JP food sub of some horse sashimi/grilled that I had and no one questioned it at all as they have in this sub.

I couldn’t. No horse. A bite of whale. But I KNOW that 1 bite would be the end of the meal. No. I like “traditional” sushi. Ugh dude

Outside the moral issues of eating whale and how it is caught; whale meat by far has the highest amount of mercury and other substances that are present from bio-accumulation.
It’s a health hazard.

When I was in Japan I tried horse once when dining with a co-worker who was a Japanese native. It was a smaller and thinner cut than the one in this post. Maybe more like Korean BBQ brisket kinda thin and as I recall it wasn’t too chewy. Maybe because it was cut so thinly. I do recall liking it, but I never ordered it again. Maybe residual American guilt or cultural difference I suppose.

I like raw horse. Had it a bunch.
Not a fan of whale, which I’ve also had quite a few times (it’s often brought out as part of a course at some sushi restaurants we go to on Korea.) It’s just… not good. It’s not terrible, but not good enough to justify eating such an intelligent creature.

I need to try this!

Worst two pieces of sushi. Not for me at least. Stinky.

This is not sushi. This is sashimi or Otsukuri. Also unnecessary. IMO

When I visited Japan whale was the worst thing I ever tasted.

This is, technically, not sushi. Sashimi, yes. Sushi, no.

I would try the whale at least. Edit keyboard problems
