Thought this was gonna be about 7th street

  2. Yes. The answer is yes… I couldn’t handle the lines when I went on Monday last week but have had his pop ups and always enjoyed the hell out of these burgers!

I’m not really a hype train guy but love George Motz. I definitely believe he’d put out a good product. I’ll get there eventually.

I think 7th Street has a lot of hype behind it, but I find it quite enjoyable.

I mean it’s a good burger at a decent price point.

Those comments on eater are annoying. American cheese is standard issue for a fast food burger. Same for a BEC. I don’t want some lumpy cheddar mush. American cheese is part of the magic

End of the day it’s a ducking burger, you shouldn’t be waiting in line for this

I thought it was excellent, my personal favorite smash burger. I had the onion burger.

I happened to drop by just after their official opening. Same time and day as the pics from the article. It was packed but the orders moved efficiently. George Motz was cooking the burgers. I was in and out in about 25 minutes.

Looking forward to returning and trying the regional burgers they will be preparing. Many years ago, when there was a fake beach in Long Island City, Water Taxi Beach, Motz had a pop up there, and the burgers were also great back then. The man is a burger scholar!

I’ve had dozens of his burgers at his pop ups and at his restaurant and they are definitely worth the hype. The onion burger is simply the best. IMO (and George’s) they are even better when you get them to go so the burger can steam in the bag so you get a texture similar to White Mana.

Had it on Friday. The burger tasted very fresh and impressively hot – steam rising, almost burn your mouth hot, could not be more made to order. Got the Onion Burger as a double. It’s very good… there’s just not a lot to it for the price. The fries are genuinely subpar, as Eater noted in their review. They gotta figure those out, it was like lukewarm McDonalds without the salt. Total price for one double and one order of small meh fries was $19.51.

If you want quality fast food, this is that. I personally am more of a bar burger guy – there are just so many more interesting burgers one can get with better sides (and often even a drink) for $20. This place is going for White Manna in Hackensack, but less good and about 3x the price. All that said, it’s worth trying once to see if you dig it more than I did: it’s an experience, the flavor of the beef is quite good, and it was cool to see Motz doing his thing.

  11. Here’s my “voice in the wilderness” attempt. Probably for the 50th time in the last twenty-five years. Really.

Elephant Burger at Elephant & Castle (Greenwich Avenue and 11th Street, just off Seventh Avenue) in the Village. Comes with an amazing curried sour cream, which I suggest you order on the side. Fries are great, too. Full disclosure: it used to be more generously sized. It was also way more expensive than typical fast food fare, but apparently that gap is narrowing quickly. Big plus — no lines, no waiting.

No financial benefit for me here, BTW. Just a regular for 49 years. (#feelinoldereveryday)

Genuinely the best Smashburger in the city right now in my opinion. I’m not sure I’d wait an hour in line for it (or anything really), but I went solo on Sunday while it was pouring out and was seated right away.
