Damn, bummed I never got to try Funzi’s. Looked promising. Didn’t realize they shuttered last month. Anyone got an inside scoop?

Article makes it sounds like they’re still operating but under a different name? Anyone go recently to vouch for quality post Funzis branding?

Ah man, never got to try Funzi’s. Heard it was good though. Oh crap, they shut down? Anyone have intel?

It was solid stuff. Only went twice though.

It was weird there was a bunch of claims online for a while that the owner was withholding wages and was an alcoholic? Shame it was good pizza.

  5. I went there (for the first time) on Nov 19 and the outside and signs are totally different than pics I have seen, but the pizza appears to be the same. The burrata was the best slice I’ve ever had.

There’s a sign outside saying it’s called St. Marks Pizzeria now and mentions having the same chefs and recipes

I went the weekend after last and and didn’t even realize it wasn’t called Funzi’s. But anyway, the slice was very underwhelming for top NYC pizza standards (L’industrie, Best, Fini, John’s, Philomena)

    From Eater last week:

A promising new pizzeria loses its chef
Kevin Cox, the owner of Funzi’s in the East Village, is reportedly out at the new business. The promising pizzeria opened on St. Marks Place this spring: Its thin-crust pies with simple toppings — tomato, garlic, and chicory — put the pizzeria in the same sentence as slice shop greats like L’Industrie, where Cox previously worked, and Scarr’s. He has since left the business amid a dispute with the building’s investors and landlord, according to sources in the neighborhood. The Funzi’s name has been removed from the storefront at 36 St. Marks Place, between Second and Third avenues; the restaurant remains open for service. Funzi’s did not respond to Eater’s request for comment.

  9. I went this past Sunday and the quality was solid. My Square e-receipt still says Funzi’s Pizzeria so maybe they forgot to update that.

I ate there 5 days ago, it’s still there.

I tried going two days ago at 6 pm and it was closed. Anybody know the operating hours?

Slice is OK, not bad for the neighborhood but the aesthetic inside is disqusting. It’s trying to be a dive bar kind of thing but it’s actually just gross, like never been vacuumed, tables not cleaned, and only person working is the pizza guy MAYBE one other dude. Shit was the epitome of try hard

It’s still there, they removed ‘Funzi’s’ from the sign. The pizza is the same as are the people behind the counter.

I like the tomato slice, pretty good in my book for the area.

I went two weeks ago. I was confused about the sign change because I didn’t know it had shuddered. But the pizza was incredible. It looked exactly the same, so I think it’s the same pizza just different owners. The actual place was dirty tho, then again it’s St marks. There was garbage all over the floor. So yeah great pizza, maybe not a great date spot.

I went into funzi’s once, and the cashier interrupted me three times (“Can I get a regular slice?”) to argue with one of his cooks. I spun around, walked out and haven’t looked back.
