Hello,

I want to make this recipe: [https://www.lacucinaitaliana.it/ricetta/gnocchi-di-nocciole-fonduta-di-montasio-e-mirtilli/](https://www.lacucinaitaliana.it/ricetta/gnocchi-di-nocciole-fonduta-di-montasio-e-mirtilli/). However, I am American and cannot find Montasio, and I don’t have time to order it online. What would be a good substitute for this application that would be easier to find? Thanks!

  1. Not sure which Italian cheeses you can easily find where you live, but I read online that the “Friulano” is produced in North America and is close enough to the Montasio. Alternatively, the Asiago would also work, imo.

Can you find Spressa delle Giudicarie? That might work.

bad news is that unfortunately you won’t probably find montasio in the US.

Good news is that apparently you are not trying to cook some recipe which needs montasio specifically. Frico, for example, won’t succeed if you don’t use montasio or a specific kind of cheese.

For a fonduta, you can probably use a wider range of cheeses. a normal (good) [cheddar](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheddar_cheese#/media/File:Somerset-Cheddar.jpg) will probably do. From a technical point of view. For the flavour I don’t think you can find a cheese that sweet in the US.

Montasio is a hard cheese, that is, it is not soft. search for Piave Latteria Asiago. Ciaooooo
