This was the very first meal I ever cooked from Hello Fresh almost a year ago. I remember it being a pain to grate the shallot, but that it was worth it because it was SO GOOD.

Imagine my surprise to find that they changed the ingredients. Not only is it an onion now instead of a shallot, and it isn’t grated, but they also changed out the panko breadcrumbs for 2 slices of white bread that you’re supposed to soak in water and mush up before adding the rest of the meatloaf ingredients. Are shallots and panko really affecting the bottom line?

It was still good, but we all remember it being amazing (though it WAS a year ago so may be a case of rose colored glasses). If I had checked the old card beforehand, I might have grated the half of onion for the gravy at least. But I will for sure make it at home from now on using the original shallots and panko.

Photos are my dinner last night, the old card, and the new card.

  1. I wonder whether it’s a new recipe or just a different version they use sometimes depending on available ingredients.

Looks good, might be something I would try. Would you be so kind to send me the instructions of the back of the old card, b/c there is no way I’m soaking bread and putting it in meat.

Change that meatloaf to a gravy covered pile of tender roast beef and that’s the perfect meal.

This post made me check my recipe card. I’m so sad! This is by far one of my favorites, and I’m disappointed about the shallot and panko. I’ll be following the old recipe when I make it this week. Thanks for the heads up!
