Cruised by one of my old late night spots from 20ish years ago, the Trudy’s by campus on 30th Street. What an eyesore. I don’t understand why the Trudy’s signs are still on the building, it closed four years ago. They’re never going to reopen are they? Kind of a bad look considering the other locations are still in business, right?

They should just demolish it and the city should make it into parkland to make up for the park they’re turning into a detention pond across the street (Hemphill Park).

miss her so bad just want her back
Taggers suck
It looks as bad as the food tastes at their South location.
This place was super mid and the carpet in the upstairs part was gross. Graduated 2013, still live in the area.
I know it’s challenging – but you will prevail.
Would probably cost too much to hire someone to take the signs down. Whoever owns Trudy’s isn’t gonna bother to do it plain and simply.
I used to work there and the attic was such a crazy mess of multiple buildings built on each other and decades of electrical work laid on top of each other. Some kitchen fire shut them down and there was no recovering apparently.
it can always be worse unfortunately…
When did this start in Austin? There has always been some amount of graffiti, and some larger sprays in particular places, but it seems like it’s only in recent years that closed/abandoned places are almost immediately covered in graffiti. Is it a change in the “street art” culture, a change in enforcement (cops no longer care), an Internet driven trend, or what?
Yeah, there could be a sign that reads “Starbucks coming soon”.
Mexican martini and stuffed avocado were the only redeeming aspects. I’m really surprised nothing has happened to the property yet.
Surprised that new sign bar hasn’t tried to buy it.
This just breaks my heart
Can’t even do the Trudy’s challenge anymore. Sad.
Worked all 3 locations in the mid 90s, and loved them all. When I moved back to Austin from DFW in 2019, my first stop was the Burnet location.
It was…disappointing.
I don’t think that they own it anymore. It used to be owned by QUESO DELICIOSO TEXAS STAR LLC. The property is now listed as being overseen by CT Corporation System, which is a registered service company.
It’s representing the owners of the property. I found this out with a permit search. It could still be owned by them, but the most recent Code Violation shows that CT Corporation System was named as the owner.
Anybody else remember when it was Hansel and Gretel’s?
Oh Lord, the original Hansel & Gretel? I remember drinking much beer there during my AFROTC days…
Drove by Threadgill’s today and it’s [got a similar look](https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3322403,-97.7222968,3a,75y,293.86h,88.18t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1swk6WRNrSgUqlfUOhF0mfgA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3Dwk6WRNrSgUqlfUOhF0mfgA%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D305.3582%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu). RIP, Kenneth. RIP, Austin of Yesteryear.
How sad. Loved waiting on overnight nurses for early morning happy hour.
Wow! So many college memories as well from 20 yrs back, they should just level it at this point, that looks terrible.
Just like Threadgill’s. Such a shame.
Yes, someone could open a Torchy’s inside.
Sad to see how Trudy’s fell off. It used to be the place. Anything really come to take it’s place?
i thought the woman who owns gabriela’s bought it…wonder what happened to that
There will never be another feel like showing up to the OG Trudy’s at 12:01am on your 21st for your first legal Mexican Martini. To raise a glass to days gone by!!
May someone with a vision acquire the property and find a new way to captivate the minds of those in ATX
Fuck that’s so sad. Some of my earliest memories were in that Trudy’s
The fajita-rita happy hour special was genius.
I remember eating breakfast while a large tableful of night shift nurses in scrubs were kicking back margaritas.
