I threw some beetroot in the smoker for the last couple of hours of a brisket cook and OMG 🤤 why oh why have I not done this before until now? Has anyone else tried it or any other fruit or veg you love to smoke? I am keen for suggestions of things I have not thought of! 🙏🏻

Damn you. Now I’ve got one more thing on my to-do list.

Now I have smoked artichokes on the brain.

  3. I made watermelon burgers once. I thought they were great. Family was less impressed. Liked the salt/smoke/sweet mix. Fleshy enough to be a bit meat-like.

Smoke some red grapes for about 45-60 minutes (just enough to get a touch of smoke). Gives it a nice smoky, savory, sweetness.

My mum often does a beetroot, pear and feta salad. She was away this Xmas so I made my own version for nostalgia but treated them all on the BBQ. Adding the smoke to the sweetness of the pear, earthiness of the beets and saltiness of the feta just took the whole thing up another level.

We had a neighboring property that always dropped a ton of pears on our lawn. One time I cooked a bunch down on the BBQ and then made a charred pear vodka with them – amazing!!

Also really good for making things like Kale chips, or dry roasting broccoli. Basically any fruit or veg is a candidate

That looks fantastic, seriously. Now you got me thinking about like a smoked sweet potato mash with feta.

Smoked beets are so freakin good. Carrots, parsnips work really well too but the smoked beet is my favorite smoked vegetable.

Here’s some things that I think work: smoked yams, smoked eggplant, smoked olives (in oil / not pickled), smoked nuts, smoked artichokes, chilies and peppers (dried and fresh), black pepper and salt, curry powder.

Welcome to a goofy renaissance moment where you’re throwing everything on your smoker. To take it further, a lot of these things can be used in recipes. Like say smoking yams then making smoked mashed sweet potatoes. Or smoking some artichokes and making smoked artichoke dip (both of these are awesome).

I throw in a pile of chopped veggies (carrots peppers broccoli zucchini onions mushrooms) with some oil, salt, and pepper and smoke them under the meat drippings. They taste better than the meat half the time.
