German canned herring for a German style breakfast to fuel me for learning German today.
I cut the onion too thick but overall it was a tasty breakfast and not a bad first time experience to eating herring. (Yes, I do have troll breath now. Lol)

Now eat that for dinner, and you’re really German – tinned fish is more of an Abendbrot item. Traditionally, dinner is cold in Germany (although that’s changing in younger generations). Abendbrot is just that, bread and savory topping (cold cuts, cheese, fish like yous), often with some pickles.
