This is the brothers sun on Netflix. They’re at a Korean run place so I’m assuming this is the place to help. I know the white bits are garlic. But what is the dip/chutney? Do you eat raw garlic with condiments or is the garlic also cooked in some form? Although here it looks sturdy and raw. Help please!

Raw garlic is a common addition to KBBQ. Some people like to pop in a raw garlic clove/slice into their ssam, while others prefer to grill it next to the meat beforehand. I’ve never eaten it as a dip because I don’t like raw garlic, but ssamjang (and doenjang or gochujang for some people) is a common dip for cucumber/carrot sticks or even raw green chilis.

Coloring is off in that photo making it look like doenjang but I assume it’s ssamjang (which is made using doenjang, chili, and other things…)

Koreans eat the 2nd most garlic per capita in the world, behind China which eats twice as much per capita. Koreans eat garlic raw, pickled, grilled, sautéed… basically any way they can.
