I’m a big fan of Opa’s sausage (from Fredericksburg), and I saw their ham at HEB for the first time.

It’s firm with really good smoky flavor, not sweet, very reminiscent of hams I’d get from good butchers in Europe and also for some reason it reminds me of Cooper’s of Llano’s turkey sausage.

$8.49/lb, fully cooked, slice it yourself to desired thickness, probably works better as a dinner ham served by the slice than a sandwich ham. Comes in 2-3 lb sizes and probably would last a week opened in the fridge if you don’t eat it first.

Well, if it’s good enough for euro butchers, I’ll give it a try.

  2. Which HEB? Not all HEB’s carry the same stock, so I’ve learned.
