– Jo’s Coffee raised prices for customers while paying employees Federal Minimum Wage, $7.25/hr.
– Jo’s Coffee insists that an increase in prices means an increase in tips, therefore employees do not deserve a raise.
– Jo’s Coffee believes that its employees’ income should mostly (over 50%) come from tips.
WE believe this is not fair to CUSTOMERS OR EMPLOYEES.
Jo’s Coffee, owned by Bunkhouse Management, is reported to have made over $2.7 MILLION in revenue based on most recent public records*. Bunkhouse Group’s estimated total revenue is over $46.1 MILLION per year based on current public records.* Jo’s Coffee operates 4 stores in Austin, Tx and has now expanded to New York City, NY.
Jo’s Coffee is keen on their image, curating an “authentic, local Austin” vibe. This image is 100% built by the passionate, hard-working employees that strive to create a positive, communal environment; NOT for the corporation that owns us but for the customers that we truly care for. That irreplaceable energy is formed by lasting employees establishing real relationships with the community of folks surrounding our stores.
WE want to be here and we want YOU to be here, but…
LET’S BE HONEST. Many of us are struggling right now, regardless of which tax bracket you’re in. Jo’s Coffee and Bunkhouse Management are THRIVING with profits increasing each year. However, since 1999 (24 YEARS!!) Jo’s Coffee has paid its employees Federal Minimum Wage. They openly admit that they EXPECT the majority of our income to be based on tips. Jo’s Coffee has consistently “over paid” for various expenses, but has proven that the labor of its employees is not worth the price.
If Jo’s Coffee and Bunkhouse Management believe it is up to customers to pay their employees’ bills, they will end up losing both valuable customers and employees.
Please consider signing this petition in support of the employees generating record profits for Jo’s Coffee and Bunkhouse Management. Say NO to corporate greed, and help some of those profits get into the hands of the people actually working hard to generate them.
Thank you greatly,
Employees of Jo’s Coffee
