I’ve been off the sriracha for years now and yesterday when I was at the grocery I see some of the good ol staring me down. Well yes old friend you can come home with me. FF to today, I’m scrolling through Reddit and stumble upon a post about someone hitting the jackpot with a couple bottles of these, in the comments I find out that Huy Fong is not the same, and very disappointing. Well I cracked the seal and you are absolutely correct. It not only tastes generic/half assed, It really doesn’t taste good at all. Unbelievably disappointing as we don’t buy Huy Fong Sriracha for the heat, we buy it for the flavor. Does anyone have any recommendations for a sriracha that would compare to original HFS?

  1. I switched to Mama La’s and really really like it. I switched because of the huy fong shortage and ended up liking this one way more. It’s somehow sweeter and spicier with a lot of additional flavor.

Here’s a link so you know what it looks like. My wife got it from an Asian grocery store in the Houston area.

Lee Kum Kee makes the best sriracha I’ve had since the og went under.

Flying goose is almost identical to the old rooster sauce

Can someone explain to me what has happened to Huy Fong Sriracha? I heard it was a combination of issues with the crops of chilis and still dealing with production issues from Covid… I assumed it would be back soon and the same as before. Can anyone clear this up? Please and thanks

Man, I hadn’t seen it on the shelves in so long! I saw it last week and felt so lucky. But I noticed the taste was flat immediately. I thought I was crazy, but I’m glad to see I’m not. Such a bummer.

Diamondback Sriracha if you are a Texan

Or diamondback Sriracha if you aren’t a Texan, but you aren’t allowed to take any pride in it.

I’ve enjoyed one called Sky Valley (from my nearby “Walmart neighborhood market”). I find myself consuming it faster than I ever did the rooster sauce. 😁

My regular is Crying Thaiger from Suree

  9. I got 3 bottles of the Underwood Ranches black bottle sriracha with the dragon on it from Amazon. It tastes just like the old sriracha you gotta try it.

Thank you everyone for the recommends!! I’ve got some tasting to do. After reading the comments I have 3 that I am going to start with. Of coarse #1 on that list is the underwood sauce. 2. Lee Kum Kee 3. Yellow bird(very curious about this one) keep the advice coming please! After being so thoroughly disappointed with HFS I now have a new mission in life: to find a worthy sriracha. And BTW the spiciness of the sauce is important however is not my #1 concern.

Wow I’ve always had flying goose. Never seen the rooster one. I’m in the U.K. though.

I had the rooster recently and everytime I get pho, tastes the exact same lmao y’all are crazy

Tangentially related, but I think most people here would find this mini-documentary about the unknown (real) history of sriracha quite fascinating, it’s been around far longer than Huy Fong

Am I the only one who doesn’t like siriacha at all?

Melinda’s sauces are now my go to. Found at Walmart

If there is a Sprouts store near you, I tried their store brand, Siracha, and actually liked it more than the OG Huy Fong Sriracha.

I stopped enjoying that stuff when I was in middle school. I only use it in Pho now.

Yep, bought a bottle two days ago and man, it doesn’t have that fresh, pepper forward taste that I loved so much. the bright flavor is gone, and it’s way more garlic forward. Huge disappointment.

Yellowbird Blue Agave is pretty good. It’s definitely a lot sweeter cause of the agave but pretty tasty

It’s not very similar and has its own distinct taste but Ox Brand Sriracha is amazing. Was my go to when the sriracha shortage hit couple months ago. It’s a little spicier and has an amazing fermented umami bomb taste.

To me it tastes a little less hot and a bit more sweet. Reminds me of the Trader Joe’s brand. I don’t mind actually. OG Hug Fong was a tad too hot for me anyway.

I finally found their sambal olek. Haven’t tried it yet but hope it has not changed.

I’ve been eating this Sriracha since the 90’s. The new batches taste fine. I’ve got 3 bottles in the fridge. New old and very old. There’s always been a variation from batch to batch and season to season. This “green tip”, “Cock sauce” from Huy Fong will be just fine. There’s been a lot of new comers to Sriracha and the brand, and they are a fickle bunch.

Just wanted to also thank u/6GayRatsInMyButthole for providing that link. My wife and I love Sriracha sauce, and the lack of quality has divided our marriage. My children have suffered, my work has suffered, I have suffered. I don’t think its exaggerating to say u/6GayRatsInMyButthole saved my life.
