And holy smokes is this stuff good. Kind of expensive at 14 bucks, and I’ve already put a decent dent in it after 1 meal. Any recommendations on other brands? This is the only one my supermarket had available.

I found it to be an interesting experiment, but not quite for me. I’ll have to look into other chili crisps, especially ones similar to what the Thai places around me use.

You made a good choice, but Heinz Chili Crisp is also excellent and costs about half as much. Fly By Jing has a lot of good products.
Lao gan ma is great and usually around 6$. I’m always able to find at World Market if you have one of those stores available
Edit: the jar is much bigger than fly by as well

I haven’t tried this yet. Boon is my favorite out of everything I’ve tried so far.

Lao Gan Ma is my personal favourite Chili Crisp. Usually I’d have to be driven downtown to find it at the Asian Supermarket but today, when I was in my regular store, I found it on the shelves there. Total score, I bought three jars.

I saw this at the local Vons and it was 18 dollars for half the size of grumpy aunt chili oil. I involuntarily cussed out loud at the price. Was it good?
Bells and Flower Fried Chili Paste is really great. More heat forward and less fragrent than other brands.

This is THE best chili crisp I’ve tried

You want Lao Gan Ma chili crisp sauce. It’s the og that fly by Jing copied. You can find it at Asian markets

I thought that this had a problem with the oil to crisp ration, in my opinion. I expected mostly crisp but got mostly oil. Like a lot of oil and not a lot of crisp. I like the flavor but will keep on trying others until I find a true crisp and not a crisp flavored oil.

What the fuck?

Mr. Bing is pretty good.
I haven’t tried Fly by Jing yet, but I want to.
Pro tip: chili crisp, mayo (specifically Japanese Kewpie mayo if you can find it) and lemon juice makes one hell of a dipping sauce for everything. Especially cab cakes and french fries.
Chili crisp is also great on fried eggs.
AHighWideEyeFlyJedi
That is one of the worst tasting brands. I’m glad you still liked it.

You should try the extra spicy one, it’s delicious. I find them on sale at Whole Foods sometimes but even then a little pricy.
Can someone explain to me why it’s called crisp? Doesn’t look very crispy

Step Dad got me this for Xmas, I like it but haven’t made a full meal to try it on yet, just tried it plain and on a cracker. I’m happy he got it for me though, I want to make him and mom something perfect to use ot

Should try making your own, really get to control things to your liking and it’s less expensive
ElectronicTrade7039
Trader Joe’s brand is good, and they have a cilantro lime crisp that is also good.

Try kelp chili crisp by barnacle foods. Really really good. Can get it on Amazon or at world market. Highly recommend

If you can handle a lot more heat, try Don Emilio Salsa Macha Chile de arbol and morita pepper sauce. They’re absolutely the most delicious “chili crisp” style condiments I’ve had. Be warned though, they are quite hot.
Fly by jing is great, seems a little steep. Got a gift box for Christmas, there is a spicier version I highly recommend

I tried some of this stuff from Costco, don’t like it much, it’s not at all crispy. I prefer the S&B brand chili garlic oil [https://www.sayweee.com/en/product/S-B-Umami-Topping-Crunchy-Garlic-with-Chili-Oil–Mild-/83230](https://www.sayweee.com/en/product/S-B-Umami-Topping-Crunchy-Garlic-with-Chili-Oil–Mild-/83230) this stuff is great, but not very spicy. Also not very Chinese tasting.

Ah….I love Chili Crisp. I’ve only tried three or four brands but Zindrew is my favorite. Have to order it on Amazon, $17 ish shipped per 9oz bottle. They also sell it on their own site but it’s a little more expensive unless you are buying enough to quality for free shipping.
Fine-Researcher3188
this stuff is like low tier to me Get you some s&b umami topping (brand) or lee Kum kee chilli crisp oil

Try it on some ice cream

I will forever be a loyal eater of Lao Gan Ma after trying all these new chili oil crisps out there. However, the other brands offer interesting flavor profiles.

Go for Momofuku. It’s cheaper and better
PissDrunkChris

Haven’t tried that one but I really like https://chileeoil.com/ and https://hereheremarket.com/products/bombay-chili-crunch. I think the TJ’s chili crunch is too onion forward and not enough heat for my taste.
Bells and Flower Fried Chili Paste is really great. More heat forward and less fragrent than other brands.

Try her Zhoung “sauce” too. It’s a little bit sweet while still being spicy. I prefer it for certain things.
If you want the best off the shelf brand go with Kari Kari. The best chili oil is homemade and it’s super simple to make.
Check out the crispy garlic in Kari Kari. Nobody competes and I’ve had probably 2 dozen chili oils.

It’s really easy to make. I used this recipe as a starting point. It’s cheaper than buying it and you can tweak it to your tastes.
