I went WAY over on my budget this week. I found a great deal on a whole turkey and simply couldn’t pass it up! Plus I bought several items that were not on my list, I decided to buy chicken and turkey in bulk to stock up instead of just buying what I needed for the week, and some of the prices were a little higher than I anticipated.
I originally wanted to spend $50 but I’ll have meat for next week so I should be able to spend less for next week’s shopping trip.
I’m making several recipes from the quick and thrifty cookbook I just got and I’m excited to share!
Here’s what I’m making:
Broiled Flounder
Chickpea Salad
Noodles in Peanut Sauce with Tofu
Burgers Diane – not sure what to serve on the side with this one
Chicken Stroganoff
Smashed Parmesan Potatoes with dipping sauce
TBD for the rest
I would love to know what y’all are making this week too!

I’m about to head into Aldi and do all the grocery shopping for the week I’m using a cookbook that I just got it’s a vintage cookbook and it’s called quick Thrifty cooking and it’s got like 450 recipes um for people that have like no time but want to save money so I’m going
To be picking out a few of the 30-minute meals there and trying those I have plenty of the ingredients on hand apparently I just have to pick up a few things so I want to see how budget friendly we can really make this week and hopefully we don’t need to spend too
Much money so let’s get in there and see how it goes here is my list not a ton of things to get some odds and ends and Staples but um mainly some meats and things like that so let’s get started so it looks like there’s one turkey left at
69 cents a pound I was not um going to purchase one but this is a 14 lb turkey so um that would be a really great price so I might pick this last one up all right since it’s going to be less than $10 I’m going to go ahead and pick it up
I’ll freeze it and use it down the line in a few months Mama next I’m looking at the eggs they don’t have very many left so I’m going to go go ahead and grab them now they’re $229 each well each dozen so I’m going to get two dozen all right we
Go they don’t have the milk that we normally get right now and that’s okay we’ll just go ahead and get this organic whole milk for $379 since the box is empty we can actually go ahead and grab the box and use it for Groceries next we’ll get some orange juice for $329 by the way I can’t believe how expensive eggs are again they’re 2229 a dozen just wild so expensive not sure what’s going on here we go my daughter wants to try these um you know different yogurts here with
Different flavors we’re going to try the black cherry it’s 59 for this one and then I’ll get a large container 32 oz of this plain non-fat Greek yogurt for $3.49 I don’t mind if it’s whole milk or nonfat but it looks like they only have like strawberry they do have
Organic for $579 too so that’s not a bad deal but I’m just going to get this one I use this instead of sour cream a lot and um I can use this is actually in Do’s to make bagels and things like that so I love having this on hand for all kinds of
Things I do need a little bit of butter I should have bought it last week and it was $2.99 so unfortunately I did not I was not able to come back and get it when it was on sale so I’m just going to get one for 369
Today I need a couple of pounds of chicken so I’m trying to find a good price here so this boneless skinless chicken breast with rib meat is 349 a pound but if I go down here to the Boneless skin skin chicken breast in the family pack it’s much cheaper at 2249 a
Pound so I’m going to see if I can find a really small one and pick one of those up okay this one looks great cuz it is 5.78 total it’s 2.32 lb I just need 2 lb so I need to get one just like this so the price tags here say something
Different these um thighs are $119 a pound but then on the the um package it says something different so I’m not sure if these are on sale cuz that’s a pretty good deal $119 a pound for thighs I think I’ll go ahead and pick up a small
Package of the thighs and when I get up front see if it’s on sale for $119 and also pick up a small small container of the chicken breast too I was thinking about getting some ground beef I don’t see any good prices so I’m going to get
Some ground turkey today they do have this for $429 for 19 o but I’m thinking I’m going to go ahead and get this one $6.99 for 36 oz of ground turkey and this is 8515 so that makes it about $310 a pound so I was looking in the fish
Section and the fresh fish and I didn’t see any um white fish that I wanted they do have some flounder filets it’s $529 for a pound so I might try that cuz that’s a great price and they do have Alaskan cod too it’s $1.89 for 2 lb here
So that’s also a good price so I’m not sure which one I’m going to go with yet so I’ve never had flounder before we’re going to give it a try I found a really easy um Broiler fish recipe so that’s what we’re going to do with this
Today next I need some garlic powder I’ll get this one for 9 I always grab grab one from the back I wasn’t planning on picking up flour but I’m almost out I’m going to get one of these bags for 235 I’m going to make some no need bread I have a
Couple of techniques that I want to try out I’ve heard some really great things from somebody about this cheese so I might have to try it $249 so maybe I’ll have to try one today it’s pretty good price in just a second next I need one can of tomato sauce for
49 actually I’m going to get two for good measure so I was planning on getting a small container of tomato juice but this is all they have here it’s 225 which is not a bad deal but I don’t need 46 o I just need a tiny tiny bit so I think I’m
Just going to use my tomato sauce and just water it down and that’ll be good enough just to make a substitution that um saves me some money and reduces some waste let me just see tomato juice from concentrate which is just water and concentrated tomato juice and salt yeah
So that’s pretty basic so yeah I can just figure it out make a substitution I see they still have this sparkling grape juice my kids really loved it so we’re going to try the red grape juice it’s 224 anytime I bring somebody with me we spend extra money on stuff like this I
Don’t know if that happens for anyone else next I need some barbecue sauce so I’m going to get this one here for $155 we like the honey barbecue sauce go so I need some white vinegar and I see they have these small containers for $135 that’s 32 oz but I
Do use it for cleaning and things like that so I think I’m going to get this large jug for $3.39 it’s the same per acidity 5% acidity acidity excuse me for 128 Oz um so yeah I’m just going to get this giant one today for $339 next we’ll get a little bit more
Ranch we like the butter milk it’s $1.95 last week I picked up one of these Italian dressings it’s very similar to the Olive Garden one it’s only 225 though for the 16 oz and we tried it on some pasta salad it’s really delicious so if you’re thinking is it going to be
The same it’s almost identical ingredients but um it has very similar flavor too in basically half the price next I’m going to get this 5 lb container of yellow potatoes for $447 next I’m going to get some mushrooms for 227 I like these baby Bellas red onions are on the Aldi Savers
Today for 45 cents a pound so I’m going to go ahead and get one of these for later this an is an example of me buying something that’s not on my list but it’s not a you know huge price increase here for the budget so save that for later
White onions are also 29 cents a pound so let’s get a few of those and of course we have to pick out a snack 387 for this all right let’s go put it in the cart how much dollars did we and one more snack for me$ 225 for my
Favorite wavy chips somebody said I buy a lot of junk food I’m not sure if I do what do you think do I buy a lot of junk food right now I’m buying a lot of junk food here we go okay here is our cart let’s go ring
It up I know I’m over budget let’s go see what the total is So I found this little gem so I’m going to be getting this separately it matches my sweater definitely went way overboard today I bought a lot of things that were not on my list and those um thighs actually
Turned out to be leg meat they were not $119 a pound my total was $921 that is way over what I thought but did get a lot of Staples and things were a bit more pricey also did get a turkey that wasn’t on my list and that’s a 14
Lb turkey so pretty good haul for the price

Hello Laura, The price of eggs always goes up in the winter because it is a season where the hens slow down on laying eggs. Once it gets into spring the price will go down again. I hope this helps.
Also, I don't think you buy a lot of junk food. You make most food for yourself so I think that the snacks and treats you buy are a great balance. I think people just like to complain or criticize the choices of others because they feel safe hidden behind the screen know? You do you. Plus you grow your own veggies and things and that is way more than most people do. Those who talk about any junk you buy need to go sit down somewhere. Their comments are not needed or necessary.
I watch your shopping videos all the time. You do NOT buy a lot of junk food. I can think of another You Tuber who does though….
Everyone needs treats
Love your videos Great hails and recipes, plus tips for us. We all need a few treats on occasion…i buy them as rewards. 😊
You definitely don’t buy alot of junk food at all! 😊🇨🇦🍁
Great deal on the turkey, I wouldn't have passed that up. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it down the road. You can get so many meals from one turkey.
As for the price on the chicken, did they explain / correct that?
Girl, if you want a bag of chips, get a bag of chips. With Aldi prices it is hardly what I would call an indulgence.
I'm working on using what is in my freezer and not adding to my 'freezer deal collection'. I have a list of 10 meals listed in my (your) book using nothing but freezer / pantry ingredients. That is money already spent, time to shop at home for me.
I might had to make a small grocery run for fresh veggies, but if I play my cards right I might go two weeks without going to the market.
Good job, Laura.
Good grief…no, you don't buy a lot of junk food! Some people need to keep their thoughts to themselves. I am a new subscriber and I've really been enjoying your channel. My kids are all grown and on their own. I love to see what meals you come up with!
Thank you for a great shopping trip! I don’t know why someone would use a red onion or a white onion. I only buy the yellow! Is there a Flavor difference?
You don’t buy much junk food!
You can also save the treats for when you have a once a week house cleaning day. When everybody gets their chores done, they get a treat. It could be pre-portioned chips in baggies or a portion of a giant candy bar. Sometimes I find purchasing chocolate in the giant sizes if cheaper and each child can have a few blocks.
I feel like you barely buy any junk. You buy tons of Whole Foods. It’s impressive!
I definitely don't think you buy alot of junk food and some people need to mind their own grocery business
You're like the queen of healthy cooking. Someones always gotta say something. Like theyve never eaten a twinkie orrrr maybe they need one 😂
I don't think you buy a lot of junk at all! I really enjoy your recipes and learn a lot from you.
You have the least amount of junk food omg.
What state do you live in?
I think you have a healthy balance with your food choices.
Good cook friend
