How long does it actually take to make Jammy caramelized onions I don’t believe the lying cowards that say 20 to 30 minutes so let’s find out I sliced up three sweet onions and mixed them with a tablespoon of oil some salt and a third cup of water then set them over medium
For 20 minutes while I read some Shrek fan fiction after that they were opaque but not at all Jammy so I put them back on the heat and after another 15 minutes they were uniformly Brown and tasted sweeter but if you call that Jammy I’m gonna call you dumb and stupid all the
Water had evaporated and I had to constantly stir for another 20 minutes so I didn’t find out if Shrek and Donkey kiss or not but we finally got into the sweet Jamie realm after an hour of cook time total but purists could take this farther

medium heat?
coward
Add butter for faster
Tbh I like em better just slightly cooked
Every recipe online: 15 min prep time, 30 min cook time.
Me: 30 min prep time, 1 hour, 15 min cook time
Slice onions, put them in a rice cooker for a regular program. Boom, caramelized onions.
a wok is the wrong tool for this job that's why it took so long
This is why I cook my hunions at over 9k° for 10 minutes, stirring constantly
Higher heat with multiple deglazings will get you there quicker.
Ogres are like onions
You mean ruin onions?
Balsamic and brown sugar
I was gonna say it should take a few hours lol
But do we really like onions THAT jammy?
Slice super thin on mandolin med high heat, splash a little water when they dry out, add a small splash oh balsamic when they get close. No more than 20 minutes
I wanna try just throwing that shit in a slow cooker overnight. Ain't got time to stand over a pan for an hour, but setti and forgetti would be nice.
Cover them. Keep as much moisture as you can.
Adding just a little bit of brown sugar and worstershire sauce really elevates this. I eat it with a spoon just like that
White onions take longer to cook, use red onions instead
where's the music
40 minutes will do it
Like a entire hour
Disgusting. Onions are so gross
Add some baking soda (or was it powder??) to reduce cooking time. It breaks down the onion cell walls and so cooks faster
Quickest ive done caramelized onions was 20 minutes. it was stressful, but they came out perfect. My most common method takes between 45 minutes and an hour and a half depending on how many fucks i give if its jammy or just very caramelized. Jammy isnt best for every application. regular (45 minute mark for this guy) are great for things like omelettes, and anything where texture isnt super noticeable because theres already more texture. But for stuff like french onion soup? take your time. 3 hours or more on those bad boys. The sweeter and softer they are the better
I can recommend you great Shrek fanfics, my favourite one so far has lots of Shronkey kissing (this is a joke 😭)
just add baking powder
Can confirm it's like a solid 1.5 hours or longer if you're making a lot.
“I don’t believe the cowards that say 20-30 min” PREACH IT BROTHER!!! 🗣️🗣️🗣️
You can use higher heat if you constantly add water. Way quicker jammy onions
Low heat, salt… 45 mins
And I’m not a jobless low life so called you tuber
i tested making caramelized onyos alot of ways.
they reason onyos get caramelized is because the cell walls breaks down and the onyo juices contains some typa sugars.
theoretically you can nuke it in a microwave high setting, because microwave pops the cell walls at the molecular level and hence could be finished on the stove fairly quickly.
freezer does similar things as the onyo juices expand and ruptures the cell walls during freezing.
microwave = small portion immediately
freezer = very big portion preprepped
I saw a vid where this chef cooked it with water for ten minutes but the pan was filled to the brim w/ onion and she used about a cup of water.
Yeah. Normally its like a 40 minute process to get them right. They are amazing though
40 minutes is the right amount of time. I have no idea who said 20 or 30. If it takes you an hour. Thats normally due to inexperience
You should do this with a stainless pan not a non stick. You dont get as much browning and fond with non stick
Use water, not oil and keep the lid on for the first several minutes so they steam first 👌
You can speed the process up by adding a little water, putting an lid on and letting them sweat down for abt 10 minutes
Add water
I cook mine on medium low for 2 amd a half hours
It takes me 3 min on high flame, and i have never burnt it till now……😂😂😂😂
But I use oil or butter, not water
YOU NEED TO ADD WATER !! 😂
Skill issue
