Made a 35th birthday lemon cake! This is a lemon cake made into the number 35 for my best friend’s birthday! Doubled the batter to make two 9×13” layers. Cut the layers in half then scored out the numbers. It was filled with vanilla buttercream and then dolloped with more vanilla buttercream. Lesson 1: I need a cake slicer to evenly slice the layers. Lesson 2: I needed way more buttercream than I anticipated. Lesson 3: learning the overall use of a piping bag. Among many other minimal lessons…the cake was a big hit – even though this was not what I wanted the end result to look like. But, for my first time making a lemon cake from scratch and making my own numbers… I feel it was better than nothing! Onto the next.

Oh, it turned out AMAZING!! How did it taste?
Honestly this looks fantastic! The main suggestion I’d make is to cover the whole cake in a layer of buttercream before piping the colors on top, It would make it look a bit cleaner and more cohesive. But this looks absolutely delicious and I’m not surprised it was a hit.
Wow looks great! I want to learn how to pipe. Lemon cake sounds divine.
