I know I asked about this before and I just found this or rather it was recommended to me by google.
Can I just throw the ground turkey or ground pork or ground chicken into the slow cooker without needing to brown it or should I brown it first?

You can throw it in there raw and it’ll cook up safely, but it won’t be as good.
There’s some chemical name for it, but the reaction the ground meat gets being browned in a pan just makes it taste better.
shepherds look after sheep.
always brown. if you have a multi cooker where you can do it all in the same pot, it saves on dishes
Not recommended. Taste will be very off. It takes less than 5 minutes to green the beef so the time saved by not doing it is minimal and the trade off of gross food is a waste.
That’s not a Shepard’s pie, but the way. It has to have lamb in it to be a Shepard’s pie.
You CAN put just about any raw foods whatsoever in a slow-cooker, and as long as you cook them “long enough”, they’ll physically cook.
You should never do it. Browning meats has a number of important advantages – you help get fat out of the meat and therefore not into your final product, you can also add seasoning directly to the meat to improve it later on , and most importantly, you want to develop the Maillard reaction – which seriously improves both flavor, color, and texture.
Veggies don’t need to be BROWNED but giving your veggies a quick to medium saute again helps you improve flavor, color, and texture.
Again – it’s your food and your meal. You can “dump cook” it lke Cathy Mitchell, no problem, it will work. It’s just so much better when you do it right.
