Preparing authentic Neapolitan Sfogliatelle filled with pastry cream is easier than you may think. These beautiful layered puff pastries are typically labor-intensive and time-consuming, but with my simplified method, you’ll be enjoying homemade Sfogliatelle in no time.

INGREDIENTS (8 Sfogliatelle):

2 Rectangular Puff Pastry sheets (230 g – 8 oz each)
50 g Melted butter (¼ stick plus 1 tbsp)
Pastry cream, as needed
Powdered sugar to garnish

Pastry Cream:
35 g all-purpose flour or flour 00 (¼ cup)
80 g granulated sugar (⅓ cup plus 1 tbsp)
2 egg yolks
250 ml hot milk (1 cup plus 1 tbsp)
Zest of ½ lemon

INSTRUCTIONS:
Make the thick pastry cream (this is my full tutorial, https://youtu.be/ZzNqSkfNBSw).
Take 2 rolls of puff pastry of 230 g to obtain 8 Sfogliatelle. Cut 4 rectangles from each roll. Brush with melted butter, then shape and fill with the pastry cream, as in the video. Brush with butter again and sprinkle with icing sugar. Bake in a preheated static oven at 200°C (392°F) for 10–15 minutes, or until golden. Let it cool and sprinkle again with icing sugar.

If you’re looking for an easy and delicious dessert, try puff pastry and pastry cream sfogliatelle! This recipe is easy to follow and will have you saying “dessert is ready” in no time! Step 1: Make Pastry Cream.

When it starts to thicken, remove the lemon zest. Your pastry cream is ready! Allow to cool. You will need some for Sfogliatelle. You can enjoy the rest of the pastry cream as a spoon dessert!

Step 2: Shape Sfogliatelle. Ingredients for 8 Sfogliatelle: 2 Rectangular Puff Pastry sheets (230 g each) – 50 g melted butter – Pastry cream – Powdered sugar to garnish. Rectangular puff pastry sheet of 230 g. Engrave lines close together up to the middle.
