Hi everyone it’s desire welcome back to my channel thanks for joining me for another video today I’m going to talk about meal planning and how I’m able to budget $80 for groceries a week so I am just one person I honestly felt that $80 was a lot but some people are telling me

That it’s not and mind you I do live in San Diego so it is very very expensive here in general so it’s not like I’m living in an area where things are very very cheap and that’s why I’m able to afford $80 worth of groceries a week and

Can do it no what I’m doing is I’m meal planning out the majority of my meals and so I’m just going to show how I do that my process I actually have some really nice new pages in in the past I wasn’t doing it this way with some fancy

Filler paper but I received this filler paper from the happy planner from their new be happy box and is perfect because that be happy box has all these very functional kind of things that you’re focusing on in the new year so we have a recipe section with meal planning and a

Shopping list so I’m going to be using these in this video but don’t feel like you have to have this in order to do to be successful in meal planning cuz you don’t you just use a regular piece of paper and just jot down everything that’s usually what I do kind of like

This I’m just jotting down everything on a piece of paper and planning it all out uh also in that box it did include some Fitness pages and this budget sheet this budget section right here which I will be implementing into my budget planner in another video um but for now this

One’s going to be in my main planner right here and I just wanted to go over like how I am budgeting for that $80 grocery limit that I have if you are been on my Channel or if you’re new to my channel I do use the cash envelope

System it’s something that I started sharing on my channel and on my social media accounts uh I think around March so most of the year of 2023 it’s been super helpful in my life and it’s something that I’m happy and excited to share with all of you uh because other

People have told me that they started doing it because they’ve been seeing my videos and that that’s awesome because I feel like this is a very good thing to implement into your life so yeah excited to share my recipe planning um and how I go about doing this so I’m going to use

These pages right here uh since it’s nice it’s a nice little setup on these now I already went I already figured out ahead like what I wanted to eat for the week for me my main thing is breakfast lunch and dinners uh breakfast I usually eat at work the main

One that I try to figure out is the work one I like to always have something that’s pretty quick something that I can meal prep the either the night before or like you know a few days before and just have it in the fridge that way I could just

Grab it and go and then take it to work preferably I don’t mind cold breakfasts like having a cold breakfast but um maybe even a hot one but again just something quick and something that I can prep ahead of time so one of my favorite go-tos that is not expensive um to to

Make make and doesn’t take a lot of time to make are overnight oats because for the most part most of it is just like putting it in the fridge like mixing everything together and then putting in the fridge and letting it do do its thing you do want it it to sit overnight

In the fridge so I love doing overnight oats I love changing up the flavors of the overnight overnight oats uh during each week I don’t change it up every single day because that would be way too much prep I mean you could you could change it up like it’s really easy to

Make the base of the overnight oats and then change up each one if you want something different but for me I don’t mind eating the same thing for the for a few days in a row it doesn’t bother me honestly I’m just trying to eat while

I’m at work I’m not really focused too much on like what I’m eating so I like to just do the same uh flavor each day during the week and this is just for work week for we work days for me so I have this sheet right here and usually what I would do

Is just meal plan out I’m going to use this to meal plan out my week so for breakfast on a workday I’m going to be eating overnight oats so overnight oats oats for breakfast and this is going to be my breakfast for Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday so overnight oats so I’m just

Writing it down it’s nice to just see it all like mapped out overnight oats again if you want something different you want to do like the peanut butter one and then you can do like a berry one and then a peanut butter one you could do that too I just like to

Just keep it easy and do everything the same and then maybe next week I will do like a berry one instead uh or I could do something that’s a hot breakfast that I could take to work and just heat up there now Friday I don’t work on Friday I have the

Day off so on Friday I like to treat myself to something a little bit more that it doesn’t take too much time to make but something that’s not overnight oats on the weekends I like to have some egg bites and at Costco they have some really good Starbucks egg bites which if

You buy them at Starbucks they’re very expensive but if you buy them at Costco they are the price point is pretty good so I just buy them at Costco and then I only eat them um on the weekend so they last me a while I think you get five two

Packs in the Box um so that’ll last me like 2 and 1/2 weeks if I just eat them on the weekend now since I have Friday off I’m just going to eat my egg bites and then I also like to have some hash browns with that so I like to eat

Something a little heavier on the weekend um so that’s what I’m going to eat then Saturday for me I I might just do like a breakfast bar like some kind of bar um because I’m actually going to Disney on Saturday so I don’t I like to eat there my main

Focus when I go to Disney is like eating and shopping and a little bit of RS but mainly it’s eating so I’m just going to like can yeah we’re not going to worry about Saturday what I’m eating meal planning wise because I’m just going to be at Disneyland and I’m just going to

Eat there but Sunday I’m just I will do the egg bites again egg bites and hash oops I spelled hash browns wrong hash browns oh and I buy the hash browns from Trader Joe’s and they are $3 for a whole pack of like 12 again for me I’m just

One person so it lasts me a while so I could stock up at at uh Trader Joe’s and have those for a few weeks before I have to buy them again and a lot of the things that I buy are are kind of like that where I don’t have to worry about

Purchasing them again for a couple of weeks because I’m not I still have supply of it there’s some things that I have to buy every week but then there’s some things that I have a bulk of that can roll over into the following week or

Two and that’s kind of one of them okay and then next my lunches so for lunch I’m thinking salads this week um just keeping it light at work uh so I’m just going to do uh salads I have I really like getting the salad dressings at from

From uh Chick-fil-A they sell them in the stores so those have been nice I rotate those flavors out so that way I’m not eating the same salad every week but it’s still a salad and then I add chicken into it I add some chicken that

I bulk by at Costco so I’m just going to do chicken salad and I think I might also rotate out uh I’ll do chicken salad one day and then I could do tuna salad the next day I like tuna and tuna’s really inexpensive if you like tuna um just do chicken

Salad and tuna salad those only for my work days and then on Friday again I have no work this day so I probably will go out to eat this day so I think I might go to like in and out eat something fast something not too expensive I do have an eating

Out budget I always give myself $30 a week to eat out that doesn’t include Disney Disney has its own envelope that I don’t have to worry about dipping into the eating out envelope so I’m just going to go I’m just going to put in-

And out I’m just going to go to in- and out I think that sounds like a good idea and then Sunday I’m not sure Sunday I kind of just I sometimes just eat whatever I have left over uh just so that way I don’t waste it if I have anything left

Over okay but for the most part that’s kind of my that’s going to be my lunch’s my lunch plan for the week and then for dinner I have a recipe there’s a site it’s called Budget Bites very affordable budget recipes she even breaks it down to like the the

Amount of money each ingredient costs so per person so it’s a very very affordable and also the me the the meals are very easy uh there’s lots of pictures which I like when they include pictures in the recipes online and very easy to follow and they always taste good so my

Sister’s one that introduce me to that site and I usually go onto there just to find like new recipes and I found this one I had there was another recipe for or orzo chicken that I love and then I stumbled upon this creamy chicken Oro skill

Also a lot of one pop meals I love doing one pop meals cuz I can meal prep it for the whole week and then just heat it up and maybe just make some fresh veggies or something for the side and then I’m good to go so yeah love having one pot

Meals and also crock poot meals I do a lot of crock poot meals so next week I’ll probably do a crock poot meal uh but for this week I’m going to do this Skillet and it’s a creamy chicken and orzo Skillet so I’m I’m going to do the

I’m just going to put orzo skillet skillet I’ll do chicken Oro so don’t forget I need chicken um so that’s going to be for the workday my main thing is focusing on work days because I I just try my best to have meals that

I can prep ahead of time so that way I’m not coming straight home from work and having to just cook in the kitchen and I’d rather come home just warm something up eat it and relax for a little bit before I have to go and do

Other things so it just cuts back on so much time and cleaning and all that it’s just yeah that’s why I like doing these um one pot meals or the crock pot slow cooker meals Friday since again I have the day off so weekends are always a

Different situation for me uh so Fridays I’m going to my mom’s so I’m going to probably eat at my mom’s house to be honest usually I go to my mom’s every week and either we get something to eat will they get me something to eat or

Um or there’s something there that I can eat but I’m going to my mom’s and then again Saturday Disney and then uh Sunday Sunday’s always like up in the air for me I’ll leave that open I figure out on Sunday I have I have time so that one’s always a question mark for

Me again it could be me just finishing off some food that I don’t want to waste or have to throw away so that could be that day more leftover kind of stuff maybe I’ll just put that leftovers so I don’t throw away food sounds good to me okay and

Then usually I don’t plan out um snacks but I do want to make I’m just GNA put s here I don’t want to I I want to make hummus I’ve never have I made hummus before I can’t remember but I figured it’d be easier just to make it or

Cheaper to make the hummus rather than buy it because I’m very picky on hummus and I think making my own and then just adding different toppings on top is probably going to be a better idea so I’m just going to make some hummus I can have hummus and like some I have

Crackers and pretzels and things to dip into it um so I’m just going to put humus I don’t know why I’m writing it over and over again but you kind of get the idea so the main part of this is just planning it all out so that way you see

What you’re going to be possibly cooking and eating for the week and then going off of this list I’m going to make my grocery list also this one too because I usually I don’t write it out like this I have it on my laptop I just go to the

Site and then I have it up I bookmark them that way I can reference it later when I’m cooking because I used to not bookmark them and then I couldn’t find the recipe again even though I bought the ingredients so make sure you bookmark your recipes if you’re finding

Them online uh but I wrote them all down just so way you can see them and I’m just going to go down the line on the ingredients and see what I need because I have some of these things still in my in my kitchen so I don’t have to buy all

Of these things because I still have stuff so number one on this list is banana I don’t have bananas so I need to buy those but bananas are super cheap like bananas I think at Costco are like $150 they’re for a whole bundle of them oh that’s the other thing let me tell

You where I shop so I like to shop at Walmart because it’s super cheap it has the lowest price uh so I go to Walmart love it uh and and I go to a super Walmart because I have everything that I need there I even drive drive a little

Bit out of the way to go there U but I love going there and then Costco because I could buy bulk stuff but I try to only use my Costco envelope for that so I go to Costco and then I also go sometimes to Trader Joe’s for like the specialty

Items that I like to buy like the hash browns I mentioned there’s some like little chicken patty things that I like to buy there so I really like their cookies if I want to buy some cookies I will go there to buy them so only like specific things oh also they’re pot

Stickers are really good so but I don’t I don’t need to go to Trader Joe’s this week I’m not planning out any of my meals with Trader Joe items that I don’t have so I don’t have to worry about going there I might go there next week

So my list will be very different next week when I go okay so those are the main places sometimes I’ll go to Target but you know it can be a little pricey or um Alberton or Vons they’re very pricey but I try my best to go to

Walmart first to buy the main stuff and if they’re out of stock then I’ll have to go somewhere else to buy stuff okay so first thing up bananas next is milk I don’t have milk so I need to buy that yogurt I don’t have yogurt at least

Not the yogurt I need for this meal I think I have like a berry kind of yogurt and I need I need just plain plain yogurt now I do have the oats cuz I got a huge thing of oats and the oats aren’t very expensive either like the big

Container so I already have a big container of Oats so I don’t have to worry about that I have cinnamon and I have chia seeds this is another thing I bought in a large bag of and you don’t need a lot you only need one tablespoon

So it lasts a while so I have that and then I also have I always have peanut butter and I have a big jar of peanut butter so I don’t have to worry about peanut butter either so the only thing I need for my overnight oats is bananas milk and yogurt which is

Again not expensive that’s not too much and then that’s my breakfast for the work week uh when it comes to my breakfast for the weekend I do need the egg bites I am out of those and that’s a Costco item so I have to go to Costco Costco

For that but I do have the hash browns I have enough for this week and so next week I’ll have to make a Trader Joe’s that’s a Trader Joe’s thing I buy so I just need egg bites and then next on my list are are the lunches okay lunches chicken salad so

Usually for my chicken salad I will do the mixed Cho salads at Costco they’re very inexpensive they have two packs in there maybe like six bucks and they’re already pre- chopped pre-washed pre everything you just pop it into I pop it into my container and then I take it to

To to work it’s super easy so I need salad that’s a salad mix that is a Costco item and then the chicken I already have the chicken cuz I bought a big Costco bag of chicken and that lasts me a few weeks so I don’t have to worry about chicken for this

Week but if I want to make some tuna salad I don’t have tuna so I do need to buy tuna but I have everything else I have the Mayo I have the mustard like I just eyeball things when it comes to the tuna salad I don’t go off a recipe so um I

Don’t I think I have everything I have all the spices I need and red onions celery I like to put celery in there that kind of stuff I already have it I did remember one thing I do need for my salad so I already have the salad

Dressing I have a bunch of that already and I don’t have like won strips I like to put the wanton strips so cuz it’s more of like an Asian chicken salad so won strips need to buy those okay so that’s my lunch in and out don’t

Have to worry about that that’s my lunch for the week and then for dinners I’m making the chicken orzo Skillet so right here is the recipe for the chicken orzo I already have all these dried ingredients these spices I need the chicken thighs chicken thighs I have cooking oil I need a

Yellow onion I need garlic actually cuz I don’t have any more garlic uh orzo vegetable broth broth heavy cream I need the heavy cream I already have butter so I don’t have to worry about butter and I just need parmesan cheese and that’s everything I need for the um orzo

Skillet and then my snack which is the hummus this might be like the most expensive thing I get to start off for like what it is because I have to buy the tahini I have to buy a jar of it but once I buy that I’ll be able to make a

Few batches for a few weeks with it so that’s good so the chick cuz the chickpeas are not expensive so chickpeas are I need to buy that or like yeah chickpeas tahini I need that I already have olive oil I need a lemon or lemons uh garlic I already have that on

My list and I have salt okay so those are all the things that I need to buy I think that is everything at least when it comes to making my meals now when I go to the store especially when I go to Costco there’s some things I’m buying at Costco

The salad mix and the Egg bites I’m buying at Costco uh but there’s sometimes EG go to Costco and if I see something I like I might buy it maybe something like sweet I don’t like to have too much like junk food in my place because I am a big

Snacker and I will just like over snack and sometimes I just have way too many snacks and then it goes bad so I try to limit myself when it comes to like sweets and chips I don’t actually buy chips anymore because it just yeah I try to get like more pretzels

Or things like that I’m trying to be healthier I’m trying but I love to go out to eat and I don’t when I go out to eat I will eat whatever I want when I go out to eat but when I’m home I try to be

A little bit healthier when it comes to that uh so when I’m at Costo I’m going to look for things that I can bulk bu that can be in the freezer or can be in the fridge for a while because again I’m only one person and I don’t want to buy

Things that are going to go bad with within a couple weeks and I can’t finish it myself so things like milk I can’t buy at um I can’t buy at CCO because I only buy like a quarter like the small little thing of milk and that goes bad

Within the week I can’t even drink that and and not have it spoil so I can’t buy a whole gallon of milk that’ll just go bad every every time so I I have I know the things that I can buy at Costco being like just one person and

The things that I can’t buy at Costco and so when I go to Costco with my Costco envelope because I do have some money in there I think I have like $70 in there I will look for items that I can bulk bu um vegetables but actually

The produce section there is pretty good the produce I’ve noticed stays um good for a while also like the chicken chicken that I or fish things like that that I can bulk by and put in the fridge or the freezer that’s what I try to do with the Costco and that’s what really

Helps me to really stretch my $80 budget because I’m bulk buying with my Costco envelope and then I’m just buying all this other stuff um with my $80 budget but as you can see I don’t have to buy too much to make these meals happen so that’s pretty good okay so what I’m

Going to do next is I’m going to go shopping and show you how I my haul for this and you can see everything that I purchased using my $80 grocery budget for the week and then my Costco bulk buy that I do every couple of weeks I don’t

Go to Costco every week but I do try to go every like other week or every like or every couple of weeks that I do try to go there it’s been really really helpful to have that in my fridge um or stocked up so I don’t have to worry

About getting it every single week okay so that’s why my to do next I want to share what my haul looks like my grocery haul looks like when I I meal plan I stick to my list and budget all of this so that way I stay within my $80 grocery

Budget cuz it’s possible I’m only one person so $80 is a lot for one person um and I make I cook so I find that that’s a little bit easier too I don’t buy like a lot of junk stuff because I used to do

That and it was a waste of money so now I’m really like strategic in how I spend this money as you can see I have my groceries right here I still have some money left I think I have like $18 kind of put everything together this

Is all the stuff for my orzo meal also this is a lot of chicken like it was only 1128 I only need five thighs so I have more thighs left so I bought this this wasn’t on my list but I figured it’d be good to maybe make with

The chicken it’s just some tomato sundried tomato pesto I’ve never tried it before I’m going to try it cook something up um so that’s like main dinners over there lunches I got this chopped I love the chopped kit at Costco I think this was about $ sixish dollar and you get

Two so that’s going to be my lunches some baby carrots to snack on with my lunch too um so I have that and then milk I always try to get milk cuz some things um call for it I’m going to make my own hummus so this was kind of expensive

Though to start off so I got this tahini cuz I didn’t have this but now that I have it obviously this is a lot I’ll be able to make this a few times garbanza beans was like $120 a lemon I already have olive oil I

Have a lot of the other stuff I need for this recipe so I only bought what I needed um this is going to be for my overnight oats I already have peanut butter I have the bananas right there I got them at Costco they’re like $130 a ridic they’re ridiculously cheap at

Costco I got some cuties because they were only like $4 for that whole bag I tried I used to buy a lot of fruit I would buy like every kind of fruit I like and now I’d buy fruit that I don’t buy maybe like three fruits I have

Bananas if they go bad I can make some banana bread so even if they go back cuz that’s a lot of bananas um I could still like repurpose them cuties they last a while so those should be fine and then what was the other fruit I bought did I

Buy another fruit no maybe those are the only two fruits I got oh yeah that’s everything everything on this table so I try to like limit my fruit intake because I would buy so many fruits I’d buy strawberries raspberries all the berries all the fruits apples and then I

Wouldn’t eat them and they would go bad so it was a waste of money so now I limit it just because I can’t eat at all um not because I want to limit my fruit intake um but yeah those are good for um my the bananas I’m going to use

For my overnight oats I got some um Greek yogurt as you can see I have a lot of Great Value stuff because I shop at Walmart it’s super cheap I love Walmart I go to a super Walmart um and very I could get the most for my money there so

I like to go there and Costco sometimes I go to Trader Joe’s for specialty things which I might do next week um because I want to get some things for the most part I try to go to Walmart and Costco those are my shopping places um

And then these are this is for the salads too and this is going to be like in rotation for my lunches I’m going to do tuna salad so I just needed tuna I have all the other components I need I have onions I have all that kind of

Stuff the relish the Mayo I already have all that in my fridge and my pantry so I only needed tuna and then I’ll be able to have tuna salad and some pretzels I have a big bag of pretzels so that’s my haul I still have in my wallet $18 left

So I can pick up a couple other things if I need to or I will leave that in there and roll it over into Costco and now I’m going to show you what I bought cuz I actually went to Costco like I said I bought this and I bought the

Bananas but I also bought some other things cuz I had um money in my Costco envelope so I figured I could stock up on some stuff so I’m going to show you the things I stock up on that last me a little bit longer than a week like most

Of this stuff is only going to last me for the week and then I’ll have to buy it again if I meal plan this exact stuff again um so let me show you the Frozen stuff that I got okay so here are the items that I bought using the Costco

Envelope that I have I think I had like $71 in there and I spent like 60 something 60 something on all of this so one one of the things I really like to stock up on are some frozen vegetables I have some brussels sprouts I right now

Currently in my Fraser I have broccoli so I have broccoli and Brussels sprouts and I really like costal ones because they come in this huge bag and they’re also like prepackaged like portioned ones inside there so I feel like they stay I don’t know they stay better in

The in the freezer and don’t go like they don’t get that like um freezer burn on them since they’re all prepackaged already and portioned out so I really like that one I’ve actually never had these but I love Russell sprouts and then I have the things to add on to them

To make them taste even better so I have that like I’ll probably put parmesan cheese on them and some like other stuff now this I get this out of convenience this is going to be for my lunch and I actually still have some of this in my

Freezer I think I have like this much left like in the bag and I use this for the salad that I’m going to have for lunch they’re super easy super convenient very fast that I can use these um and just pop them in the oven cook them up and then

Add them into my salads for the day so um I like to get these this bag lasted me I think 3 weeks so I don’t have to stock up on this very often because I only use a few pieces in my salad so it lasts me a while again I’m only one

Person so this stuff lasts me a while and that’s why I like getting the Frozen version because then it just be in the freezer and it’s all good so love those they’re like lightly breaded and they taste really good so and perfect in a salad so have that and then I got these

Because I really like cheese I really like til milk cheese too and there was like a $3 coupon on this I think this whole bag was $10 which I bought a small bag for like five so this is a really really good deal the date on these the

Best oh yeah the date is April 29th when you have to like use eat them um honestly I don’t really eat the cheese like all the time so I might have to take some of this to like my mom or I might have to give these some of them

Away just a little bit um but I think I’m just going to stock them in my fridge grab them I have some nuts also from Costco a big bag of nuts and I’m just going to kind of that’s like a snack so I can eat those together so got

That big bag that was a really good deal this is like a little treat for myself that I like to get these little egg bites um their Starbucks Starbucks ones and they sell them at Costco I love these this is something I usually have for breakfast on the weekends cuz I have

More time to like cook or pop I don’t really cook them you just pop them in the oven for like 15 minutes they’re super easy and they’re yeah they’re yummy so I only have these on the weekend so like Saturday Sunday 2 days there’s five of them in there so I don’t

Have to stock up on these for like a couple weeks and then I and I get them again so love those and then I wanted something like I want to get like a little treat for myself um so I got these ice creams they’re like chocolate dip strawberry ice creams there’s 18 of

Them I really don’t have a craving for ice cream a lot but when I do I thought this sounded good and if I want something sweet I thought that was like a nice choice so I picked those up again they’re frozen so they can sit in the

Fridge for a bit or the freezer for a bit and they should be fine but yeah these are like the bulk items that I bought so next week when I go shopping I don’t have to worry about getting chicken I don’t have to worry about getting a

Vegetable I don’t have to worry about buying that and I have time just to reload my Costco envelope so that way I can make another trip like this and restock on stuff so that’s my my bulk buy at Costco today okay so that is my meal planning for this week if you’re

  1. There was a really good sale on cottage cheese so I've been eating that and some fruit for lunch everyday. Super cheap and I dont need to dtress a microeave or people interrupting me.

  2. I bought my own egg bite maker from Dash at Target. Really easy, I can add whatever ingredients I want & it’s fast.

  3. Walmart, Costco, and Smart & Final are our go-to stores monthly. We drive 45 minutes to do our shopping monthly. Agree that California is pricey depending on where we live.

  4. If you have an Aldi groceries store, I would try going in there too. Their groceries are really cheap and great quality.

  5. hi Desiree, I am a new subscriber to your channel and i am enjoying it. I too would budget $80 for groceries but it would be bi-weekly. i have noticed depending on what produce you are wanting to buy, getting it from an Asian market tends to be a bit cheaper than the grocery stores. Not sure if you have already tried this. I am terrible about meal planning, wonderful idea. thank you

  6. I love these new kind of videos like the shop with me and this one!! Definitely would love if you kept doing them ❀

  12. Absolutely love the new videos that you’re posting, Desiree. Please keep them going.! 😊 I live alone too and I got some great ideas just watching this.!
    Thanks.! 🩷

  13. Great video and ideas. I too just cook for myself , but I live in the Midwest so some of our prices are a little more reasonable. My 2 week grocery budget is $150 so very close to yours. I don't like a lot of frozen items especially veggies, so my biggest expense is on fresh veggies. I do watch for meat sales and I will buy a large package of chicken, beef or pork and just portion them out and freeze them.

  14. Thank you for this video and the suggestions in the comments were also helpful. Great video!πŸ’™πŸ’›πŸͺ΄

  15. When it comes to cheese near the expiration date is I make baked Mac n cheese. A pan of it lasts a week for my husband and I. Also, since you don't mind meal planning have you thought about making your egg bites at home?

  16. This video is great! I'm all about saving $$ when grocery shopping since prices have gone up. U did such a good job <3

  17. Egg bites are super easy to make and then freeze if you arent going to Costco for awhile. Eggs, peppers, onion, shredd some of that extra cheese, add in anything else you want-bacon, sausages, spinach, etc
