Okay so, the anniversary of my wife’s dad’s death is tomorrow and I’m planning on making his chili recipe. However, I need help deciphering this thing. There’s no way I’m about to put 4 cans of tomato paste in this chili right? RIGHT?! Let me know what you think please I’ve got roughly 12 hours to get this thing started.
Keep in mind this is a crockpot recipe and I’m trying to stay as true to the original recipe as possible, but my goodness I need some help. What do y’all think?

It looks like the writing says 4 4-oz cans. So total of 16 oz tomato paste. That is not too much. I’m familiar with the little 6-oz cans which I also think would not be too much. Go by the recipe.

  2. It does say 4 of the little cans (4 oz )of tomato paste. And it looks as though 3 cans of kidney beans. The peppers and onions will add some liquid. If you want to make his recipe he is clear.

I’d guess there is some added water to make the tomato paste, closer to a tomato sauce. Also the brand of chili mix packet can make a huge difference

Maybe the 3 is someone thought 4 was too many or they could only find 6oz paste cans lol. I know it’s your family recipe but if you’re looking for other tips this is missing a few things that make my recipe win contests; Italian stewed tomatoes, hot or mild Italian sausage, Bacon, garlic, cumin, Worcestershire sauce…

  5. depending on your recipe it very well could be 4 cans.

my chili recipe is similar, just different proportions.

Looks like 4 of the small cans.
Without the measurement of the can of beans I would be afraid 2 15oz cans isn’t enough. But that’s just my preference.

I’m hoping it turns out just like you guys remember it, would love an update tomorrow!

I’m thinking 4 of the small 4oz cans or 3 bigger cans of tomato paste.

1 yellow and 1 red, that’s very important!

The trick is to undercook the onions. Everybody is going to get to know each other in the pot.
