Good morning how’s everybody doing Jill here with North Texas Festival Garden canning recipes a little bit of everything guys it is cold yesterday we were 60° and today we are at 28 right now with a very strong North Wind wanted to give you guys an update show you what went on this past

Week these are the greens guys got lots of cleanup to do when it warms up a little bit but yeah it took it took them out didn’t it and then these are some greens yeah and here are the carrots guys I I don’t know we’ve watered them to see how they look

They might be okay some of them in here need to go ahead and pull them look at there guys man did those get freezer burned freezer frozen over we might have some that are okay in here but I’m willing to bet that a lot of them are gone by the wayside

Thankfully I did Harvest quite a few um before the freeze came and what I’ll do is I get what I can out of here and uh go ahead and replant for a spring Harvest yeah we might be all right guys on some of them but you can see everything else in

Here took a hip so we really really really that was the last and final straw here’s my Moline it looks okay my Rosemary looks okay over there that Rosemary looks okay but uh yeah everything else is uh just about done this is some lavender it looks all right Peppers

Iay oh my goodness my goodness this weather is crazy crazy and looks like some of my Bo chys are okay so we also woke up Wednesday morning to a burst pipe under the house so Greg had to turn off the water and uh get up under the house when it was

Freezing cold guys like 15° cold and uh and fix a broken water pipe um my goodness this has been a troubling rough week now these next 3 days we are going to be um like right now it’s like 28 gr it’s warm in here it says it’s about 65 in here but

Uh we’re going to be probably barely above freezing today barely above freezing tomorrow and barely above freezing on Sunday and then it turns and we go up to having highes in the 50s and 60s on next week but with lots of rain so my goodness we are on a weather roller coaster for

Sure look at the smoke coming out of there from our tomato starts so those are safe looking good here thank the Lord for that because we’re going to need them is that not unbelievable all that lush green that we had uh probably this time last week it’s gone it’s just gone um our

Beads look okay we might need to trim some of them some of them down our onions look okay those carrots over there look a little better than my other ones so we might have some carrots in there but you can see everything everything it’s except for this sweet alysum everything has bit the

Dust goodness gracious alive so it is a good thing we have all those tomato starts going thank thank goodness um because it’s going to be time uh to up poot those probably in the next couple of weeks and then we will turn around probably put them in the

Ground sometime in uh sometime in March we’ll watch the weather and see what we think we’re going to get I really don’t know um but I’m thankful we have them started I’m sad that we lost all these plants because I was really hoping to get you know an early tomato harvest in

And that’s that just was not in the good Lord’s plan and we trust that we trust whatever he has for us but uh it’s kind of scary looking isn’t it he that wind it is definitely ferocious ferocious okay so I’m in the house where it’s not not as windy so what seeds will

We be starting next we’ll be starting some more Shard some more kale spinaches cauliflour celeries chory if you’re growing chickory and I am growing chickory this year um let’s see uh your brussel sprouts if you’re growing that cabbage uh cauliflower so pretty much a lot of the

Same things that you started in the fall you want to start now for a spring Harvest um yeah yeah so we got to get busy we got to make sure that we have things going into the ground as quickly as possible really hoping that we’re not

Going to get um a hot summer still don’t know I think the the verdict or the vote is out um and it’s going all over the place some are saying hotter than last year and some are saying neutral we’re really praying for a neutral summer a neutral weather pattern we need that

Desperately but uh got to keep on keeping on got to keep on uh growing food as much as we can as much as the good Lord allows us and uh just jump right over any damage that you have uh from this past week guys and it’s time

To start all over and that’s exactly what we’re going to do it’s not going to be very long before spring hits spring is probably about 8 to 10 weeks away for us here here in Texas so um wanted to give you guys an update and show you and

Uh tell you that we did a pipe did burst Greg did have to fix it um I have a prayer request my son-in-law got laid off uh day before yesterday I ask that you pray for my family and pray for him and pray for the Lord to uh direct him

To where he’s supposed to go next 2024 has started off a little rough uh we expected that but uh we’re going to keep on keeping on and we’re going to stay in the word you stay in the word and you stay in prayer you pray for us we pray

For you we love you all if you’re looking for any seeds be sure and check out our website love you guys we’ll see you tomorrow bye-bye

  1. Weatherman Plus reads Scripture at the end of every forecast episode!
Maybe you should have had the heat set higher like 72 degrees in the house
whenever the temperature is forecast below 30 degrees to avert a pipe disaster!.

I would Not blame the Good Lord when you choose to plant in a harsh weather pattem! There is a Correct time to plant and
no where is it recomended in any Gardening book to attempt to plant in deep freezeing Winter temeraptures.
Farmer's Almanac 2023 Warned last Summer that North Texas Zone would be included in Montana's Zone of deep freeze.

Call it 2 Experiments in seeing what happens when you plant seed in forecasted Drought and now Forecasted Winter deep freeze for your Zone in N. Texas 2024.

No where in scripture does it promises that if we ignore all the Weather Warnings and plant in a Winter time's deep freeze the Good Lord would cause our seeds to survive a Historic deep freeze in Winter ! Predicted in The Farmer's Almanac last year 2023!

The whole point about " Being prepared" is that we can be calm and have His Peace of mind
all winter long eating from our pantry / freezer and not planting in the winter ! This is the time to do indoor Spring cleaning and planning !
My cousin in Brazil said they are having a terrible heat wave with high humidity
all December and they do not have A/C.
    I can't imagine living without A/C .
We are so blessed here in the USA.

You are dealing with Frost bite Temperatures ! I recommend drinking hot Lemonbalm Tea with Honey all day long !
Guard the animals and do not leave the dogs outside for too long as their paws can freeze !
Stop watching Cable News and spend time with all Devices Off ! Take off the watch as well
and disconnect from all man made stress.
All Cable News is Anti Faith . It just is.
Thank God for past mild winters and mild summers.
Rest in the Lord and know God loves you and sent his Word to keep you !

  2. The only way to be ready for weather is to have a heat source for the high tunnel…and rip out all greens outside and freeze dry, freeze, can….maybe next year you can be able to have that in place …heaters connected to solar is probably the best idea….poor guys….glad you didn't have it worse❤❤❤❤

  3. I'm sorry you had such a mess from this insane weather. Hopefully your son-in-law only got laid off because God has something better right around the corner. Hugs, love, and prayers for all of you.

  4. Oh Jill , I am so sorry ,I feel you ! I lost everything myself.
As we all know , we will start over once again. Lost all dahlias. 😢
Yesterday, I visited Walmart to do some shopping, well , well . They had dahlias, so I picked a bunch ! 😂😂
Us gardens can't give up ! Oh, sweet lord . Better days ahead . 🙏🏻

  5. My grandmother and her family lived in North Texas when they were growing up and you sound just like her. ❤ I am in south-central Texas, about 40-ish miles east of San Antonio … we’ve had a crazy week here too. Bless you and your family.

  6. That’s heartbreaking after all of the work. This cold had turned things inside out. We’ve had some frozen pipes on the north side of the house. Waiting to see if any leaks when they thaw. Sending prayers for your son in law and daughter and your family to get everyone through these times. Have a blessed weekend and stay warm!

  7. It is too cold for poor plants. All my uncles plants died and they're in greenhouse with heaters but it was just too cold I guess.

  8. Well, I'm there with you Jill. We went four days without water this week. The pressure guage on our water tank went, and it couldn't get fixed until yesterday because the roads still had ice on them. On the positive side, it was a good test to see how well I had planned out what we needed to set aside for water in case the electricity went out or the pipes froze. I have many buckets set aside so we can always flush the toilet; plus jugs and tankards for sponge bathing, cooking and cleaning; and of course water for drinking. We had just enough water put aside to flush our toilets for four days. We also had enough to cook, bath, and clean with (including doing the dishes); and more than enough for drinking. So, it was a well timed test for that at least! 😊

As for my plants, my carrots I harvested the night before the hard freeze of 11 degrees, but not sure my cauliflower came through it. My herbs sailed through it, so the horehound, yarrow, thyme, oregano, and parsley also are doing fine, which amazes me because they are all outside with no cover. 😲 I did put hay on all of them though, to try to keep them covered and warm enough. It's okay. I'm getting ready to plant my carrots for spring harvest as well as some more lettuce (as soon as I get up the low tunnel). So all in all, considering we had one night at 15 degrees, one night at 11 degrees, another at 21 degrees, and last night was a ridiculous 30 degrees (after an afternoon of 71 degrees!!), we didn't fair too badly. It's already 28 degrees right now, and it's only midnight.

That's life in the East Central part of our lovely state of Texas! Never a dull moment, though I might be willing to do with a few dull moments. Maybe then I could take a breath. Lol!

  9. I’m so sorry to hear about all your plants and water lines. I wanted to ask where you get your compost from

  10. I surely do hate that news. All that hard work. Just keep your eye toward the beginning of Feb. Reporting extended forecast is showing a Siberian Vortex dropping through TX and the deep south. Just a heads up. Stay safe. Eventually spring will get here.

  11. I've read some comments and it seems that some might not know to run a couple faucets with a small stream all night, and even during day when really cold, to prevent pipes from freezing. We do it under 28°F. There's no need to heat faucets outside (attached to house) unless you need to use them. I'm older and I learned a long time ago, this is a must so one doesn't have to go through the busted pipe drama/costs.
