This was, unfortunately, my last of four bottles of this wine. Every time I’ve opened it it’s been a truly ethereal experience. 2006 was a cooler vintage in Barolo, but that didn’t stop this wine from exhibiting intense structure and power. It was also delicate, and very well balanced. The high acidity will help any remaining bottles of this last for decades to come. The aromas were bursting with ripe wild blackberry, dried cherry and cranberry, prune, clove, black liquorice, leather, cedar, damp forest floor, rose water, and graphite. Full bodied, and the tannins still persist with that classic Nebbiolo grippy and astringent character. The finish seemed to last into eternity. It was absolutely amazing with osso buco and risotto alla Milanese. Sad to say goodbye to the final bottle, but was well worth it shared with friends and good conversation. A glass (or three) that will be fondly remembered.
