This week we have bough ALLL the seeds and have put together a plan for building raised garden beds. We start preparing the field so it is ready for planting 🙂

The past couple of weeks it’s kind of actually been an ongoing project since we moved here we’ve been doing quite a lot of research into gardening different techniques to use and different ways to do things so in the book I’ve divided it into Autumn winter spring and summer the

Four tabs and under each area I’ve written things we want to think about doing under each season we really are living by the seasons here and we feel the changeing the season so much more and so this is kind of like a a guide book that we can

Refer back to but we’ve learned a lot and we’ve come up with a bit of a plan so on the first s page of the book I’ve listed all the vegetable herb and flour seeds that we do have um also the trees there quite a big list

Of each and of highlighted the ones that are perennial out of them and from that come up with a plan of what plants we will put together what companion planting what things work well together what we’ll need support frames um some we’re going to do some a Fram some

TPS and um some things we’ll need staked as well we’ve also put which which items we’re going to put into our food for us and then we’re going to have a separate herb garden as well and really what we’re trying to do is put the right types of plants together and we’ll see

What works this is uh this is work what’s worked for other people but we’ll see what works for us um few little examples of what we plan to do sort of layout of of the what the garden beds would be so for example one bed will have corn Munch to and

Melon um in another one we might have tomatoes parsley and turnup greens so in each bed there’s going to be more than one thing and we it will be new day GRE garden beds garden beds we plan for them to be about 2 and a half to 3 m long by

Where we’re going to have the garden beds there’s a proper waterfall going on here current plan of action is to scrap some of the grass along away from the wall that runs right along here and to uncover some of the bits of granite and things that are underneath and just covered by the Grass More Rubbish You can see the share my defer bite but interestingly as I’ve cleared back just along this little bit what I find is water running right along the wall you can see it coming through gaps in the stones which makes sense cuz that’s exactly what’s happening on the other Terraces

  2. Remember everything you plant will grow leaves , don't create a supermarket for wildlife , do your homework before you start,plant inaway that deture certin bugs that hate certain plants near plants that they like 🎉

  3. One big mistake in planting seeds is planting too close together and it actually stunts the growth of each future plant. This occurs with trees also. All things need the proper room to grow for the future, however that is for each plant.

What is really a different and enjoyable is when you make pancakes, just add about 4 to 6 eggs and bit of sugar, and you end up with a really thin crepe and it is really what my grandmother (German lady) made and I love pancakes but grandma's pancakes are hands down over regualar pancakes. Would love you to try them.

    I always assumed that Portugal, being much further south than us, had mild winters.
    Would a poly tunnel work in your area, for winter growing?
    I'm guessing that in summer, the heat and a lack of rain is the main growing issue for you.

  11. Your garden plans sound great and the open location will offer great direct sunlight throughout the day. Your pancakes looked great too. I’ve never tried pineapple in my pancakes so I will have to try that. One tip I have is to store your seeds in a cool dry dark place to protect them. Eu tenho visto no yotub muitos britanícos que compraram propriedades abandonadas no norte e centro de Portugal a maioria fez estufas e plantaram todas as sementes em vasinhos depois quando as sementes tinham raízes entao plantaram no campo eu achei muito interessante talvez fosse uma boa ideia Baileys vocês fazerem o mesmo . A maioria das vezes os proprietários gostam de saber nos comentários o que nós achamos por esta razao é eu fiz esta observaçao. Achei a cozinha muito interessante acho graça porquê os estrangeiros gostam tanto de casas de pedra no inverno sao muito frias mas no verao sao muito frescas o que é bom por causa do muito calor que faz no verao.Gostei muito do vidio tem uma propridade muito bonita.

    In the end, you will become your own expert of your land.

    There is one YouTuber in Portugal, a Dutchie, this one ,https://youtu.be/It9FFqcxcmA?si=UX-DqNOjxRC4n76R that has created swales using the contours of the land which he mapped out using Google maps…… Also as a way to manage water. Managing water will be a big part of it all too, but, again, in the learning you will become the expert of your land….

    But 100%, jump in with both feet…..with than many seeds you will definitely be busy.

    Will will have the kitchen done by the time the crop is to be harvested….ready for cooking and canning….

  17. A suggestion about all of the water that is appearing on the low terrace; That area is to wet for a veg garden, even with raised beds. I'm going to suggest you move up the terraces until you find the one that does not have running water seems to have good drainage and has full sun all day.
    Here's is a simple test for excessive water. Take your round shovel and dig a hole about 30 mm deep in several locations on multiple terraces. See how long it takes before they are filled by water. The last one to be filled by water is your location. But make certain that terrace has full sun.
    The first location that comes to my mind is where you erected your PV solar panels.

  18. You both amaze me how neither rain nor bugs dampen your enthusiasm for getting your work finished. Don’t worry about not getting your gardens all perfect the first few years. I am 76 & used to raise a huge garden & it’s all about trial & error but it works out. I used to can my extra then as freezers became more available I froze them but whatever technique you use, nothing better than food from your own garden. Loved your video & looking forward to seeing your kitchen getting finished & your gardening too. Have a blessed week & looking forward to your next video.
