so i ordered this online to use for gumbo…i haven’t used it yet but i tasted it and it isn’t good. it smells like old stale dusty grass or old old catnip. nothing nice or unique about it. is this normal…?

…i kinda don’t want to ruin a big $30 pot of gumbo with it, ya know…?

How you described it is pretty much how I’ve experienced it too. IMO it’s used for thickening, not for flavor.

So your hack is you bought an ingredient and don’t like it? Truly a culinary revelation, thank you.

It’s powdered sassafrass. It works like cornstarch. It doesn’t really add much to the flavor unless you heap a ton of it in there.

you mix a grain of wheat wheat flour with whisk powder to make a wad of raw whisks. when a customer buys whisker, they tell him ” whish is enough. “
