In this video, I did the thing I said I wouldn’t do, and now, my garden and I will pay the price. I’m going to be very busy this winter and spring to manage the mess I’ve made, so take it from me: don’t do what I just did! I swore I would never make this mistake again, and I messed up big time.

What’s grown on gardeners it is Monday January 1st and it’s a new year but I’m already breaking my New Year’s resolutions here on the Southeastern coast of North Carolina and on today’s video I need to get something off my chest that’s because I messed up I did

Something that I swore I wasn’t going to do anymore and it’s already haunting me for the new gardening season that hasn’t even begun yet and I think a lot of you may suffer from the same problem that I have and that’s what we’re going to discuss on today’s episode if you’re new

To the Channel please subscribe and hit the Bell to receive new video notifications and check out our Amazon store and spread shop links in the video description for everything I use in my garden and awesome custom designed to power and another gear your support is greatly appreciated for whatever reasons

Reasons I can’t explain I have some kind of weird addiction when it comes to Growing many varieties of tomatoes with most of the other crops that I plant I’m okay with just growing a handful of things but with tomatoes I seem to want to grow overboard I’ll grow dozens and

Dozens of different varieties ities just for the sake of growing more varieties and it is a nightmare to manage and it just leads to all of these different problems in my garden growing all of these different varieties of tomatoes is a pain in the neck that’s because I have

To buy all of these packets of seeds just to use one or two seeds so it’s really expensive to do it it’s really hard to manage because I’ll have one of each individual tomato variety so I have to match everything up and it’s really hard to label all of the plants and then

If something damps off or you happen to get a runt or some seed you don’t get a true representation of this variety or if some kind of insect or a mammal pest eats one of your plants then that whole variety is lost it’s just really difficult to manage and it’s annoying so

This year what I was going to do as one of my New Year’s resolutions is grow still the same number of tomato plants overall but grow only a handful of varieties that way I could keep things simple and I would be more able to accurately gauge each individual variety

Because like I I said sometimes when you plant only one plant you just get a bad seedling that doesn’t grow very vigorously so I was going to make my life a lot easier but of course that is not what I did my personal goal this year was to keep it under one dozen

Different varieties of tomatoes and yesterday having the long holiday weekend off I decided to sit down and place all of my seed orders for the upcoming growing season and guess how many varieties of tomatoes I wound up with no not 12 27 20 p7 this is how I

Scaled back my tomato buying habit so now that I’ve spilled the beans on that you’re probably wondering at least tell us what varieties you purchased well here they all are for the indeterminate tomatoes I have super sweet 100 Sun gold Sun sugar Sun orange pink princess Sun chakola Mountain magic Jersey Devil

Salon marz anara Brandywine yellow plat foot strain Brandy boy big beef plus Carmelo Chef’s Choice yellow and Hawaiian pineapple the determinate tomatoes are celebrity plus red snapper Legend Bobcat Margarita VF Loma 3 and Plum Regal for the dwarf Tomatoes I’m growing Rosella purple dwarf Emerald giant Adelaide Festival and Purple Rain

Those are the 27 varieties of tomatoes that I will be growing at a minimum this season but hey it’s not all that bad I went through my records and I grew 31 different varieties of tomatoes in 2022 and 28 different varieties of tomatoes in 2023 and I’m only growing 27

Varieties of tomatoes this upcoming 2024 season so guys I’m making big progress with this addiction and technically speaking four of the varieties don’t even count my laoma 3 and Margarita VF varieties well I only have four seeds to total so I’m just growing those as plum

Tomatoes to get them out of the way and two of the packets are free seed packets that I’m getting through tomato Growers so they don’t even really count guys right right so on today’s episode of My Strange Addiction this man can’t stop collecting and growing different varieties of tomatoes and if you think

His addiction to Tomato varieties isn’t enough just look at all the figs that he’s collected over the years I mean when you factor in my fig seedlings that I’m growing as a breeding program back there I have at least a 100 different varieties of figs and I’ll tell you what

After being part of the Fig Community for so many years I’m a relative lightweight there are people out there that have hundreds and hundreds of different varieties of figs so I don’t know what it is when it comes to plant Growers and plant collectors what makes

Us tick but whoever you are if you have an addiction to collecting different varieties I’m I’m kind of making this video as a joke just to let you know that you are not alone and I’m sure that some of you out there have the collecting bug even worse than I do what

Is the species that you love collecting different varieties of is it figs is it tomatoes are you a pepperhead and you love growing a hundred different varieties of hot peppers do you collect Citrus do you collect house plants what is it drop it in the comments below I

Would love to hear what your strange plant collecting addiction is uh but this video is not just made as a joke this is made to be practical as well not only is this made to be a check on you to make sure you don’t go overboard like

I do with this sort of thing but I also want to remind you that the time to start buying seeds is now generally speaking seed websites and Seed exchanges start stocking their seeds in December usually shortly after Thanksgiving so quantities are literally flying off the shelves so you may not be

In the new gardening season mode just yet you still may be recovering from the holidays or maybe you just have long Winters and spring feels for ever away but the simple fact is those hot new varieties that are limited in quantities online they’re flying off the shelves as

We speak so now is the time to make your list and start ordering your seeds because if you delay too long those things that you really want they will go out of stock before you know it so please take this video not just as a joke not just something light-hearted to

Uh you know entertain you but also to get you in gear for the new growing season so you get everything you want while it is still in stock start looking at your seed catalogs now and for new Growers out there or relatively new Growers that are looking to expand the

Things that they grow from seed and don’t really know good locations to order online seeds that they can trust these are some of my favorite online seed exchanges now the following locations I order from online all the time and have had nothing but great results and they are tomato Growers

Victory seeds Southern Exposure seed exchange Baker Creek territorial seed and Burpee now that being said there are a ton of places online that are highly reputable that I have not specifically ordered from but I’ve heard great things and some of those locations are fedco Mi Garder the fellow YouTuber uh tomato

Fest totally Tomato Seed Savers exchange and Johnny seeds all of those are very highly reputable companies that I’ve heard nothing but good things from now that being said I’m an East coast-based grower I know there are a lot of different locations that West Coast Growers frequent that I may not be

Familiar with so please if you’ve had great experiences please list the different companies that you’ve purchased seeds through with positive experiences down in the comments below so we may see them because I don’t want to exclude anybody and of course if you have local small businesses that sell

Seeds consider patronizing them as well for example I live right around Wilmington North Carolina and we have a great brick and mortar store called Farmers Supply they sell a good amount of seeds there and I love going there on a Saturday and browsing what they have and that’s today’s video Garden I hope

You got something out of it I know it’s a little bit different than most of the videos that I post but hopefully it was good for a laugh and it also reminds you that now is the prime time to order seeds for the upcoming growing season

And I hope I gave you a great selection of reputable companies to order the seeds through so everybody I sure hope you found this video helpful if you did please make sure to hit that like button subscribe to the channel and please ring that notification Bell so you’re

Notified when I release more videos like these if you’re curious about any of the products that I use in real life in my garden I have them all Linked In My Amazon storefront down in the video description so expand the video description click on the Amazon link and

You’ll see everything I use in real life and while you’re there check out my spreadsh shop for custom merch if you want to support the channel thank you all so much for watching and I hope to see all of you again on the next video oh boy we have fresh homemade ice

Cream for Dale for Dale on what’s in it it is applesauce and some milk and peanut butter and um egg no no egg no no well all right close enough banana oh banana I knew there was something I was missing and Dale now knows what the difference between yogurt and ice cream

Is Dale do you want ice cream ice cream treat you want an ice cream treat oh I’ll give it to him he wants it bad okay all right hold on hold on hold on Dale wait wait Dale sit down can you sit okay put it put it on the bed all right

Buddy that’s all yours now you enjoy you’ve been a very good boy

  2. I have a cacti, house plant, and a buding citrus-from-seed, and other fruit tree from seed collection 😊

  3. I buy too many tomatoes and peppers. I think I am still looking for the ones that will grow best in my a😮rea near Atlanta. Everything else I have narrowed down to 3 or 4 varieties.

  4. I was just about to order more seeds. I look at a site, bookmark what i like, then wait a day.

Sure i want to try something new, but this vid showed up. It was like a boop on the nose: "you dont need more seeds .. plant what you have, and seed save." 😅

  5. Lol, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I don't even have the space for the amount of tomato seed I started, I planted two of everything so now I have to add at least 3 small raised beds🤣

  6. Watermelon varieties seed addiction for me! We need more people to collect seeds for something in addition to tomato and peppers (based on lots of comments below who collect these), to keep the open polinated varieties for future generations!

  7. That was hilarious, God gave us winter so we can order our seeds. There is nothing like getting over winter blues with the seed catalogues. The enormous harvest and the whoopers of course there is no work in these fantasies.
This year I am getting into herbs to cook with and medical herbs as I went herb shopping and almost had a heart attack
But my vice big time is all kinds of seeds if I don't have enough seeds I feel like no matter if I have any money, I am poor. You can't eat money haha God bless you and yours

  8. I end up giving away many of my tomato starts and others because i don't have a lot of space, just 3 4×4 raised beds and pots.

  9. Have you heard of TGA? Tomato Growers Anonymous. I was doing the same thing with tomato plants until last year. Now I'm just growing a few of my favorites and they are as follows.

    Early girl bush.
    Cherry Bomb.
    Sun Sugar
    Peron Sprayless.
    Gold Nugget.
    Bush Beefsteak.
    Best Boy.
    Isis Candy.
    Carolina Gold.
    Siberian.
My sponsor says I'm doing a good job.😊

  10. Do you save seeds? I save seeds from tomatoes and have good success with them. I have a small urban grow space.

  11. I'm right there as well. I love growing tomatoes from seed – many different varieties. Here's the kicker – I don't eat tomatoes. I know, I'm strange.
