I threw a little get together last week, and it was the same group of couples where we take turns hosting once a month.

Typically the host makes a dish, and everyone else brings a little something and wine.

On the Evite, I said I was making a large charcuterie board, so come hungry, and I would also have some cocktails, wine and beer as well.

So there it is in writing on the evite, saying what I am having at my home, that’s an big FYI for everyone else to bring something different, no-brainer really. And what does someone show up with? Two whole platters of meat, crackers, and cheese.

Now if you know me, you know, I take my artistry in making charcuterie boards, pretty serious, and have done amazing grazing tables and an entire chili fixings charcuterie board with the made from scratch white bean and chicken chili before, also posting all of these photos on my social media so it’s no secret that this is MY thing.

I mean, I should be grateful that, one, they show up and to bring food with them and all that. But when I go to all the trouble and expense and making a fabulous board, and then someone shows up with stuff that’s similar, then my food does not get eaten. It’s not that I don’t mind leftovers, but my whole point of arranging this, and making it look fabulous was not just to be admired but consumed.

Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED talk and if you go to the trouble of making some big fat board, I hope that you don’t have to have it compete with other stuff that is the same thing brought to your home.

My only consolation would be knowing mine looked better. Otherwise I would be flabbergasted!
