Like the title, I want to be able to visit black-owned restaurants throughout this month to celebrate Black History Month.

I recently tried Bludso’s BBQ and it was incredible, the dinosaur beef rib was awesome and delicious.

Can anyone recommend more places they have tried? I’m willing to try any type of food, just would prefer to support local black-owned businesses to celebrate the month.

Thank you!

I added a picture of that beef rib bc it was so good

Not a restaurant but Crowns & Hops and PRSC are excellent craft beer that are local/black owned

  2. Fixins, The Serving Spoon, Stevie’s Creole Cafe, Harold and Belles, Oh My Burger, Mr. Fries Man, Poppy + Rose, Honey’s Kettle, Willie Mae’s

    Love Bludsos!!!!

Bloom & Plume coffee in Echo Park/Historic Filipino Town. Real cool spot.

And dang! That looks incredible. I haven’t had Bludso’s since they closed down their OG Compton location.

  4. Perry’s Joint in Pasadena is my go to sandwich shop. Rodney’s Ribs is another solid spot in the area.

There’s a slew of great coffee shops/cafes: Bloom & Plume, Harun, Sip & Sonder, Patria, Hilltop, Undergrind

    https://www.blkbkla.com/black-owned-restaurants

Here’s an extensive list of black owned joints

    Those I’ll vouch for:

    Gus’ Fried Chicken

    Earle’s on Crenshaw

    Bludso’s

    Honey’s Kettle

    Overrated:

    The Serving Spoon

Not on this list that are also good are Harold & Belle’s, Chef Marilyn’s, and Willie Mae’s (beware of the service, they have a rude server there. Tried to tell us that they couldn’t give us butter for their dry ass biscuits)

Les Sisters Southern Cuisine in Northridge.

My 2 Cents is wildly delicious. I love to go for a bunch of sides— the fried green tomatoes and gries (grit fries) are my favorite— but they have lots of “regular,” vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options that are great.

I go to Phillips Bar-B-Que. I’m not sure if it is black owned, but it sure doesn’t break the wallet

  9. Check out “Lou The French on the Block” in Toluca Lake, phenomenal pastries

They are underrated for how good the food was. We found it by chance. Also, Chef Marilyn’s for classic soul food.

  22. HowtoEatLA

Crustees in Windsor Hills and Hambone’s in Bellflower.

Barbeque King down on vermont is great, especially their rib tips.

  24. TimmyTimeify

Cafe Ruisseau is black-owned and pretty proud about it as well, especially since their locations are on the Westside where we aren’t as blessed with Black businesses.

  25. Successful-Ground-67

Anyone know what happened to the crew that brought us Aunt Kizzys in Marina del Rey? That was my favorite Southern food place. Saw many a celebrity back in the day there.

  26. Easy_Potential2882

Mel’s Fish Shack, Hawkins House of Burgers, Naka’s Broiler, 27th Street Bakery, Mama’s Chicken, all of them at least 40 years old, Hawkins is almost 90

  27. Super901

Say Cheese in Silverlake is excellent all year long, not just February. Glenn is the greatest.

There’s a pop up called Burgers For Life (@_burgersforlife_) where he makes smash burgers but with duck fat. It’s delicious and he makes his own sauces for it that are also really good.

He’s usually in North Hollywood once a week, and Sierra Madre on Sundays. He’s in Burbank tonight, like right now.

Also, I know people have mixed feelings, but I will always love Sweet Red Peach. That Strawberry Red Velvet Cupcake…

Blessed Tropical. Jamaican food in Inglewood. Delicious with a little parking lot and I’ve always been able to find a spot.

  30. Everyone ignoring Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles, the OG

  31. charlotie77

JR’s BBQ in Culver City is my personal favorite bbq spot

  32. External_Solution577

Does Little Ethiopia count? Because I feel like most if not all of those places are Black owned. I like Rahel, because it’s vegan and they finally brought back the AYCE menu for Fri-Sun.

Fatburger WAS Black owned until it was bought out, and its founder Lovie Yancey [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovie_Yancey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovie_Yancey) is kind of a Black American success story.

  33. Definitely Two Hommes in Inglewood!

Alta Adams, Simply Wholesome, Harold and Belle’s, Hilltop Coffee, My Two Cents, Bloom and Plume, Hawkins House of Burgers, Fixins, Post & Beam, Meals by Genet, Bridgetown Roti, Roscoe’s, and Dulan’s. Very solid options!
