Welcome back! I’ve received a lot of messages about how to make homemade bagels. Bagels may seem intimidating but they’re one of the easiest recipes.

In this video, I’ll walk you through how to make the perfect homemade bagel, and down below I’ll leave the ingredients and the ingredients for everything bagel seasoning!

Once you start making your own bagels, you’ll never want store-bought ones again!

Bagel dough:

1 cup warm water
3 cups bread flour
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
2 1/4 tsp yeast

Everything Bagel seasoning:

1 tbsp white sesame seeds
1 tbsp black sesame seeds
1 tbsp dried minced garlic
1 tbsp dried minced onion
2 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tbsp course sea salt

Shake all ingredients together in a mason jar. If you can’t find black sesame seeds, just add a little extra white sesame seeds!

Welcome back to the channel it’s the weekend today which means this is the time that I do my baking for the week so typically on Sunday I would do the majority of my baking which includes muffins cookies sandwich bread buns if we need them Dutch oven bread if we plan

On having soup or something during the week and usually Bagles but I decided to do my Bagels the day before so that I could walk you through how to make them we posted a video about a year and a half ago showing you how to make everything Bagles but I’ve since

Discovered a recipe that’s significantly easier to make than the one that I showed you about a year and a half ago so that’s what I’m going to show you today the absolute easiest way to make homemade Bagles and the kind we’re going to make are everything Bagles and the

Reason I’m making everything Bagles is because that is the most popular one in the house usually I’ll make everything or plain or cheddar or jalapeno cheddar but today I’m going to make everything Bagles and I’m going to show you how to do it I also make my own everything

Bagel seasoning and I can tell you how to do that too in the other video when I showed you how to make the bagels I did that recipe by hand so all the ingredients went into a bowl I mix it up by hand I let it rise and that was how I

Made the dough but this time I’m going to show you how to do it using your bread maker and if you if you don’t have a bread maker that’s fine too because you can still do this recipe by hand and it is still a little bit easier than the

Other recipe that I showed you but I’m going to be using the bread maker today to show you how to do it and I’ll put the link in the description for the bread maker that I use in case you want to check it out so first thing you’re

Going to do is you’re going to take your insert out of your bread maker and you’re going to make sure that you have this little piece here and this little piece is what goes in the bottom of the machine and it’s what mixes your dough and gets everything Incorporated so

You’re going to want to make sure you have this piece because if you don’t have this piece your dough isn’t going to be mixed it’s just going to be sitting in the bottom of the machine machine so make sure you put this piece in first so I’m going to go ahead and

Put this in the bottom of the bread maker insert and then we’re going to start adding our ingredients the very first thing you’re going to add to your insert is water you always start by adding your liquids first to the insert and the yeast is the last thing to go in

And it always goes on the top so I’m going to go ahead and add one cup of warm water to my insert you’re going to want to make sure that you’re using warm water because warm water is what starts to activate the yeast now that we put our water in

The bottom of our insert we’re going to add 3 cups of bread flour you don’t have to use bread flour that’s just what this recipe calls for you can use all-purpose flour it just might have a little bit of a different texture I’ve done this recipe with both flowers so I’ve used

Allpurpose flour and I’ve used bread flour and I personally don’t really notice a difference but today I’m going to use bread flour because I have some on hand I store our bread flour down here in these tote bins and the reason I store it in the toins is because we go

Through it very quickly so it’s not sitting here for a long period of time and I’m not worried about it going bad or about bugs getting into the flour or anything the tote bins work fine for us but for long-term storage you wouldn’t want to store it in these toins because

They’re not airtight we’ve got our water we’ve got our three cups of flour and the next thing I’m going to add is sugar I’m just going to be using regular white sugar so all you’re going to do is put 2 tbspoon of white sugar on top of the

Flour water’s in Flour’s in Sugar’s in now we just need a little pinch of salt you only need about a teaspoon of salt I’m not going to measure it I’m just going to give it a few turns water’s in Flour’s in sugars in salts in and the

Last ingredient we need is yeast this is a super simple recipe and it only requires five ingredients and about 2 minutes to add the ingredients into the bread maker insert I always store my open jars of yeast in the fridge but when they’re on sale I stock up on them

And those ones I keep in the freezer because they’ll last even longer in the freezer the yeast I’m using for this recipe is active dry yeast and you can find this at your bulk food store or you can find it at your grocery store this one I got from the grocery store because

It was on sale so we’re going to add 2 and 1/4 taspo of yeast to the bread maker insert and if you’re setting a timer for your bread maker and not making the dough right now you’re going to want to make sure that your yeast is not touching the water because once the

Yeast touches the water that’s when it starts to activate and you don’t want your yeast to touch the water and start activating right away if your plan isn’t to make your bagels for hours from now now since I’m making my Bagels right now it doesn’t matter if my yeast touches my

Water I only worry about separating it if I’m setting a timer if you don’t have any active dry yeast on hand and all you have is quick rise yeast that’s okay too or even bread machine yeast works I’ve used different yeast in a pinch before but today I just happen to have active

Dry yeast on hand so that’s what I’m going to be using all of my ingredients are in the bread maker insert all I have to do now is put the insert in the bread machine and turn it onto the dough setting the dough set set is typically

An hour and a half and it’s going to do all the kneading for you and the proofing or in other words the rising I find it really helpful to use the bread maker because I have other things that I need to get done right now so putting

This into the bread maker and leaving it for an hour and a half frees up my time to be able to go do other things and I’ve got a truck full of hay to unload after this so I’m going to put this in the bread maker I’m going to turn it

Onto the dough setting and I’ll come back in an hour and a half and the work is going to be done for Me The best part about using the bread maker is not only that it freeze at my time there is little to no mess I have no mess to clean up I have a couple measuring cups to put away because I took out too many but that’s it so I’m

Just going to tidy up this little bit of stuff here and I’m going to head outside so I can start unloading my hay unfortunately for us we don’t have enough property to be doing our own hay so I thought now would be a good time to

Unload it since I have to wait for my dough to finish anyway at some point we would love to be able to have our own property to be able to do our own hay but we just don’t have the space for it right now because we only have the one small

Shed on the property we have to split it between hay straw and storing all the dry feed at some point we would love to be able to have a barn or something to store more hay and straw in but for now we’re just making do with what we

Have I’m just going to unload the rest of these Bales go check on the animals and by then our dough should be ready to move on to the next step of making Bagels that’s it for the hay I’m just going to go top up the animals with some

Clean water and our bagel though should be ready to go The dough is done and it’s ready to move on to the next step I just need to throw some flour on the counter here so the dough doesn’t stick and then we’re going to cut the bagels up and shape them before I cut my dough I’m just

Going to preheat my oven so that it’s ready by the time we’re done with the dough for this recipe we’re just going to preheat the oven to 375 now it’s time to start shaping our Bagels just lightly flour your working surface and then you’re just going to

Scrape all the dough out of your bread pan insert the dough is going to be a little bit sticky and it might feel a little bit tough but don’t worry because it is the right consistency now like I said before you don’t have to put your dough in the

Bread maker the only reason I do it is to save time and it’s a lot less of a mess but you can make this recipe by hand so all you would do is mixx the same ingredients in a bowl and knead it by hand and then just let it rise for

About an hour so the easiest way to get an even cut on your dough is you’re going to cut the dough in half first and once you cut the dough in half it makes it a lot easier to turn one piece into three instead of cutting one whole log

Into six if you’re good at eyeballing your dough you really don’t need to cut it into half you could cut your log just into six pieces but for me I never get them even when I try and do one long piece so since we’re looking for six I’m

Just going to stretch this out a little bit and I’m going to cut it into three even pieces and then I’m just going to let those sit there and I’m going to cut the other half so we’ve got our six pieces and it’s time to start shaping them into

Bagles so what you want to do is you want to take your dough and you want to roll it into a circle I’m not good at doing it on the counter for some reason so I usually just do it in my hand but once you’ve got your circle you’re going

To squeeze the dough out and then poke a hole in the center and then use your fingers to spin it to shape the dough into a bagle and that’s it as I’m rolling my Bagles out I usually cover them with a tea towel just so that the

Air doesn’t dry out the dough so one is done and it’s time to go on to the next one our Bagles are done in shape so the next thing we’re going to do is we’re going to get a pot of water and we’re going to put it on the stove and bring

It to a boil in the pot of water you’re going to add about 1/4 cup of sugar or 1/4 cup of honey I have honey so I’m just going to use honey but I have used sugar before and it does the same thing the reason I’m filling up a pot of water

Is because believe it or not Bagles need to be boiled before they go in the oven to bake I had no idea that was a thing until I read the recipe the first time and I honestly thought that there was a mistake in the recipe but after reading

About it further it turns out the reason we boil the bagels first is because that is what gives them the chewy texture that a bagel has if we put them in the oven without boiling them they have a completely different texture and they don’t have that class IC Bagel texture

So I’m going to put the honey in the pot and I’m going to turn it on and bring it to a boil while our water is boiling it’s time to get our tray ready you just need a regular baking tray and I’m going to line mine with parchment paper if you have silicone

Baking mats you can use that but I prefer to use the parchment paper on top of the parchment paper I’m just going to sprinkle a little bit of ground cornmeal you don’t need to completely cover your paper I just like to put about a tablespoon on the bottom

But it helps the bottom of the bagels get a little bit crispy I’m also going to grab my seasoning that I’m using which is everything bagel seasoning I made this a long time ago and I just keep it on hand on the Shelf all the

Time it’s very easy to make and I can leave the recipe in the description below the last thing we need is an egg white to brush on the top of the Bagles after they’re boiled and then we’re basically ready to start cooking them our water is boiling so it’s time to

Start putting the Bagles in the pot so you’re just going to drop your bag Bagles into the pot and they’re going to float on the top of the water I’m only going to put three in at a time because they do expand when they cook and I don’t want them sticking together once

They’re in the pot I’m going to set a timer for 1 minute and then at 1 minute I’ll flip them over and cook them for one more minute on the other side the timer just went off so I’m going to flip them over and I’m going to

Restart my timer for one more minute and then it’s time to take them out and put them on the tray time to add the last three and then we can start baking them the timer is gone off and it’s time to take out the last of the Bagles then

We can brush them with our egg whites and season the tops of them I just have one of the eggs from our chickens in here and I’m just going to use a brush and brush the egg whites on top of the Bagles now that the bagels have egg

Whites on top it’s time to start sprinkling the seasoning on you can sprinkle as little or as much as you like depending on your preference I like to go somewhere on the medium to heavy side of the seasoning and sometimes when I make these Bagles I’ll even put some

Of the seasoning in the dough in the bread maker seasonings done and now all we have to do is put them in the oven for 20 minutes the bangel are finally done cooking and they turned out awesome you’ll know they’re done when they’re a little bit

Squishy on the outside but a bit crunchy on the top I’m just going to take these off the tray and let them cool and once they’re completely cool I’ll just store them in a reusable Ziploc bag I don’t usually leave these on the Shelf I typically

Will put them right in the freezer after they’re cool and then we can just pull them out as we need them homemade Bagels don’t last as long on the Shelf so they do tend to go bad within a few days they’ll start to go moldy unlike store-bought Bagels which seem to be

Able to last on the shelf forever that’s why I put them in the freezer just to have them last for the whole week so there you have it the easiest way to make homemade Bagels it really can’t get any easier than that that’s it for this

Video If you do end up using this recipe to make homemade Bagels make sure you let me know in the comments how they turned out and I’ll link the bread maker in the description and I’ll also give the recipe for the everything bagel seasoning in the description and I’ll

Also list the ingredients for the bagel in the description as well so that’s it for now and I’ll see you on the next one bye
