I was just gifted this older Weber kettle. Do you guys think it’d be possible to remove the rust on the grill grate or am I better off just buying a new grate? What would be the best way to remove the rust?

Thanks

That grate is fine. A few minutes with a grill stone block and it’ll look new.

Just remove the rust and oil it some. This is going to happen all the time.

Clean it. It looks brand new compared to mine.

  4. Probably fine for a while but you can always get a full stainless one and not worry about it again.

What rust? In all seriousness, fill charcoal chimney up and when all lot, spread it across the bottom. Let it burn in and then rub oil on it through a paper towel and tongs. Keep repeating until seasoned. This is not bad at all!

Hit it with a degreaser like easyoff. Lots of times this is t really rust. Its rancid oils from previous cooks

Get the grate nice n hot. Metal wire grill bush it. Cooking oil on a rag, drag in on grate. Let it burn off. GTG

Had this problem yesterday, make a mixture of mostly baking soda with some vinegar and leave it on there for 20 minutes and scrub it off. Mine was way more rusted than yours and I got a lot off with this method.

Oh man, takes me back. I bought three new grill grates before I learned that you could just let them soak in Coca-Cola to remove the rust. Then I learned as long as they’re coated in black soot grease you’ll be fine.

Do yourself a favor, learn from my mistake of buying extra grates. One will last you your lifetime

Heat the grill up scorching hot and use half an onion on the end of a BBQ fork. That’s how I clean my grill.

Buy a new one, and you can give me that one. I will take that rusty piece of junk off your hands!

Thank you all for replying to my post. I’m gonna keep the grate and try to clean it off. I’ll get the fire hot, use an onion or oil, and use a grill brush on it.

That looks brand new compared to all my grates!

That looks pristine compared to mine. The plated cooking grates on these grills have a lifespan, no matter how well you take care of them. WHY don’t they make them in stainless steel, like the grates on the 26” kettles? That should be standard on the Master Touch, and available as an accessory/replacement part for the 22s.

  18. Buy stainless. Let’s be honest you’ll always have a Weber kettle. Why bother the hassle of always cleaning it or grilling food on rust?

Go with GRILL GRATES. A game changer for steaks
