That steak looks amazing. And yes banchan ssam good good. Ooooh steak.

Fwiw ssam just means wrap. So if you have something to wrap in lettuce or what have you its ssam. Bossam is technically a type of kimchi wrapped in Salted Napa leaves. Its super pretty. But now has evolved to mean boiled pork dish.

For me personally ssam is more about the wrap than the stuffing. In the height of the summer my mom and my favorite is to go all out. (Baechu, 2 types of lettuce, kale, mugwort leaves, perilla leaves, dashima, steamed cabbage and steamed pumpkin leaves) most times we eat it with bokkum doenjang -sautéed soy paste.

You did great! Looks delicious! If you like mayo, try making gochujang mayo for ssam 🙂

Gochujang, sriracha and sesame seed oil and pinch of pepper and you’ll have a delicious Samjang
