***TRIGGER WARNING – THIS IS A POST REFERENCES THE PROCESS OF PROCESSING ANIMALS. ALL OF OUR FOOD COMES FROM SOMEWHERE AND SOMEBODY HAS TO PROCESS IT BEFORE IT SHOWS UP CLEANLY PACKED IN THE GROCERY STORE. ALSO, IM JUST A DUDE ON A RANCH, I AM NOT INTERESTED IN DEBATING OR PROVING POINTS.***
Hey everyone, I raise pigs and cattle about 15 minutes east of town on a small family ranch. The pigs are Hampshire pigs that we generally raise for our own consumption, but our family has shrunk quite a bit in the last year (deaths, marriages, etc.) and we ended up with more animals than we can consume. Currently I have about 10 “large roaster sized” female pigs that are averaging 100 lbs when dressed.
Our pigs are raised on an all natural ranch where we use zero pesticides, fertilizers, hormones, antibiotics, etc. Basically they’re just pigs as nature intended. They’re well exercised in a 1-acre, partially covered, enclosure with access to a natural wallow and water feature (a sprinkler they play in). Their daily diet consist of a blend of feed/corn mixture, deformed/discount produce, apples, squash, melons, doughnuts every other Sunday (donated by a local shop who loves how happy the pigs get when they dump the bag).
With that, I wanted to open the opportunity to be able to have naturally and holistically raised pork to those in this forum. This is on a whole-hog basis, as in you must take an entire pig. If you have property of your own you can pick up a live pig with a trailer; I will give a considerable discount. If you’d like me to dispatch it; I can do that as well and still give a considerable discount. For pigs that are dressed and de-haired, like they would look from a commercial butcher, I can chill or freeze them, and there could be a wait as I work alone and can only do one per weekend maximum as I have a full time job as well.
The pigs for sale are all females. This is because female pigs have a sweeter more casual flavor and tend to not have that “gamey-wild pig” flavor that some people have observed. This is due to testosterones effect on the meat when male pigs hit puberty and the released hormones cause “boar taint” rendering the meat excessively gamey and tough. Some enjoy it, some don’t, all of my Pigs for sale are female have been described as mellow, sweet, and flavorful. They generally have a 1” – 1.75” layer of fat between the skin and muscle that renders wonderfully when slowly roasted whole.
The pigs pictured are the mothers of the pigs that are currently for sale. If you’d like a larger pig we can discuss pricing via PM. I can also walk you through taking the animal to a processor (of your choosing) if you’d like it turned into sausage, chorizo, vacuum packed, etc. Southside BBQ & Meyer’s in Elgin are close by and I would be willing to discuss taking it there for you if you can meet me there to complete paperwork and pay deposit. I have NO affiliation with these companies, they’re just close by and have good bbq in my opinion.

***If you want space for an apple in the pigs mouth: I can do that and I won’t charge extra, but I need to know beforehand as there’s a simple change in procedure that must happen early on and is difficult, if not impossible, after a certain point in the process***
Please feel free to reach out for further information and please be a decent human being and I will promise to be one in return. If you’re going through a hard time and you’re trying to make someone’s holiday special with a pig roast; reach out and we can discuss your situation. I cannot do this for all of them.
If you read this far, thank you for taking the time to read the post and I hope you start planning your next/first roast soon! Cooking them isn’t difficult and there are plenty of YouTube videos outlining various methods of building a cooker and the cooking process itself. We’ll be here when you’re ready to make it happen!
Thank you and have a great day!
