Everywhere I go for dim sum these days it seems like there’s a competition to see who can make the largest har gow and other dim sum. What used to be a modest, one-bite delicacy is now a three or four bite monstrosity. I don’t want eat a shrimp dumpling the way I would normally eat an apple. It’s not just a North American phenomenon either; it seems like the same thing was happening in Taiwan the last time I was there. While we’re on the subject of dim sum, I miss the carts that the waiters used to push around, calling out the names of the different dishes.

The cart still happens at Dim Sum King, went there yesterday for Family Day and there were carts everywhere!

Are you going to the established places that old Chinese people go or you going to the fancy new places that’s been popping up.

Cuz pretty sure the places where the old people flock to have the regular sized dim sum.

Or alternatively I buy my dim sum here and eat it at home.

Honestly I get you, but man after having dim sum at dragon boat fusion, now the one fusion, i do not care how big my dim sum when its that good. Favourite sui meis from places

Based on the headline, this post went in exactly the opposite direction I thought it would. And I agree 100%.

Two-bite sui mai particularly drives me crazy. IT SHOULD BE ONE NEAT BITE! I DON’T NEED TO SQUIRREL AWAY BITS OF SUI MAI!

Side note….people complain about getting less for their money with price changes, and it sounds like these places are finding a way to give you more. Has the actual quality dropped or do you just miss the smaller/regular sizes?

I’m going for my first ever dim sum experience later this week and this pops in my feed. Wish me luck, even if they’re too big! I am up for the challenge!

  10. My dad talked about Toronto dim sum in the 1960s and it being a working man’s meal in 1 or 2 items. Not the dainty little things that you need to sit around and eat lots of to feel full.

    I guess it cycles?

Same with the wontons here, way too big.

I miss original. Why’d they have to go and add coconut.
