I know this is a fan favorite on this sub, but just posting it again because the tomato/cucumber salad was a winner for me and I also really liked the addition of Ethan Chlebowski’s red sauce (hope that if Kenji or SE ever updates this recipe that they also include their version of a red sauce!)

The cucumber/tomato salad is definitely non-traditional (using iceberg lettuce makes sense for street cart vendors who are understandably trying to keep food costs and labor prep down as much as possible), but it went really well with this dish and I like it much more than the traditional iceberg lettuce and tomato combo. And just tossed it with olive oil, red wine vinegar, finely chopped parsley, salt, and cracked pepper.

I lived in NYC for several years and this dish really brought me back (the white and red sauce especially)! Although if you ever want my absolute favorite from the city, check out Adel’s cart on 6th Ave by Rockefeller Center. There’s a reason that there’s almost always a line of locals there.

So, highly recommend this dish for anyone who hasn’t made it before. Super delish, quick to make, and fairly healthy too!

Oh my gosh. This is really beautifully plated; I am eating breakfast and now I want lunch already 😂 I think this sub has finally convinced me to try this recipe. Can I ask how long you marinated the chicken personally? It says 1 to 4 hours which is quite a range. Also curious what brand of mayonnaise you used for this 😊

Looks delicious! It’s been a while since I’ve made this and now I must have it soon.

made this a while back and enjoyed it, but thought that the vinegar in the sauce was a little overwhelming. would probably use 1 less tbsp next time, or maybe just swap that 1tbsp with more lemon juice
