My husband and I finally made it to Murray’s last night and it lived up to my expectations! The space is beautiful —definitely hit the mark with the “old New York tavern” look and feel. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the menu as well. I had the fish and chips, it was so big I took half home and had it for dinner tonight. Hubby had the roast beef with cheese and liked it, though he said they could have put another slice or two of beef on the sandwich. The cocktails and beer list were well thought out and my Cosmopolitan was excellent.

The only downside is the price—if the dropped the fish and chips down $4-5, and the roast beef by a couple bucks, it would go a long way. They’re not hurting for customers, so they have no reason to do that.

We’ll be back, though it may be just for drinks and a snack at those prices. There’s no place quite like it in Austin.

$24 is a bit high, especially for a tavern. Maybe make it smaller and lower the price. I do not want an entree that I need to take some of it home, especially fried food.

That fish looks fantastic. How was the quality of the plate? The chips look questionable, although I do like Russets…

  3. I want to like it but it was so loud, burger was not good either.

There’s been other threads with a lot of hate…but my wife and I had the prime rib there a few weeks ago and it was damn delicious.

Well, speaking of LARGE portions of fish, can anyone compare Murray’s to Garbo’s, which is also famous for a large Fish & Chips? Looks to me like Murray’s is more accurately English, but I haven’t had it yet.

    I don’t guess Murray’s does a F&C special, like Garbo’s does on Tuesday?

I live in the neighborhood & love it! Agree it’s on the pricier side but the food is quality and the vibes are great.
Wednesdays they are doing steak, fries and a martini for $35. Highly recommend! We miss Gourmands but I welcome the upgrade.

Super happy you had a good experience here OP, really I am, but I had an incredibly mediocre experience. Went with a friend and split the burger and pop pie. The burger was just…okay. And the pot pie was more pot pie flavored soup in a ceramic cup with flaky breading on top. It really wasn’t great at all. I wouldn’t say terrible. It was certainly pot pie flavored, but what I had hardly resembled a pot pie and for what i paid, it was disappointing getting a meal the size of a cup of soup. Which is what it was, a cup of pot pie flavored soup

Too expensive. Overly-Small portions when it comes to the appetizers. The Corned Beef charcuterie was just 5 slices of cold corned beef with a few crackers. Cheesy puffs were 4 amuse bouche sized puffs. Spinach Artichoke dip was enough for maybe 3 dips each for 3 people (also not as good, and nearly as expensive as Bartlett’s).

I had the fish and Chips for $24, and it was not crispy on the outside. Sad.

    Bad bad Service.

And honestly, not very good. I give it a 5 out of 10, mostly based on atmosphere.
