Today I am going to unbox some shopping with you……and a bit of free stuff! The first item was something I needed to buy in any case so I was delighted to get it while it was under offer……..this then took me down a ‘rabbit hole’ of free stuff. I went for it with the free stuff……..but with a big caution attached which I’ll share with you. Beware the freebie!

Doing that I’m supporting these really small independent businesses in many cases they are businesses which they only have a shop here on my High Street no chain there are a couple of places on the High Street here where they’ve got two other shops somewhere else in South London Southeast London but yeah I’d

Rather shop on my High Street shop locals support the local businesses but not only that I much prefer to shop face to face much prefer it it’s human isn’t it it’s way more human and you can see um I think you will have seen by now my

That little bit where I was in my local iron mongers when you shop in your own local area your local businesses for year after year after after year you develop little relationships with all those shopkeepers um yeah it’s lovely and sometimes you know there are quite a few places where

I get a bit of discount sometimes you know like in the DIY the uh the IM mongers if if it comes to like I don’t know £10 35 just for just round it down to a tner they don’t bother with the bits of change so yeah I much prefer to

Shop face to face face because it’s more human you know getting me out doing all that kind of stuff but also just in terms of you remember the I hardly want to mention it it’s like Beetle Juice remember the bra Saga last year um I think when when it’s all internet stuff when

You need to do a return actually it was the it was the wrist warmest wasn’t it but um yeah just if what I found like last year and I found previously is when there’s a problem with your order and it’s an internet thing so it’s all being

Done by the post and by email and if there’s a problem it’s it feels to me anyway like it’s much harder to sort out you know if I was to buy something on my High Street let’s say oh let’s say I bought a pot of paint from my iron mongers I get

Home I open the pot and I look inside and it the something wrong with it it’s crystals or it’s the wrong color whatever it is I can literally just go straight back out across the road and go and get it changed or get a refund whatever I could have the whole thing

Done and dusted in 10 minutes if that had been an internet purchase it would drag on for days so yeah I’m not generally um a fan of Internet purchasing oh but also not only that but of course course the whole waiting in for the delivery and uh you know it’s like it’s

That thing isn’t it I’m sure you’ve all experienced it I’ve experienced it far too many times when I wait in all day firstly you don’t get a time slot for ages like if I’m going sorry if I’m getting a delivery on a Friday why can’t I on you know Thursday

Afternoon Thursday evening be given a time slot then of say sometimes you get a time so and it says 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. so I’m supposed to just sit here for 12 hours I mean obviously CU I work from home so much I’ll always fill that

Time I’ll always find something to do it’s more just that thing of yeah but I might be itching to get out especially if it’s summer um but I’ve also found with so many companies I don’t get a Time soot at all until the day off so so

With that Friday I was saying that if the delivery is Friday uh I don’t get a time so and then I get an email to to tell me my time slot and the email arrives 5 minutes before that 1 hour time slot starts so it’s like okay I’m getting five minutes

Notice to be in and like I said it doesn’t for me it’s generally it’s not too much of a problem because I am at home a lot but how many times I mean I’ve had this too many times I’m sure you have as well where nothing nothing nothing

Nothing nothing all day and then I might check my email as 8: 9 in the evening and I see an email from the company saying we tried to deliver today but you weren’t in drives me insane it’s like I was in I’ve been here all day anyway so that’s my roundout

Way excuse me of saying Sun getting chilly now now that on the whole I prefer to shop on my High Street face to face local businesses small businesses etc etc and via the internet but sometimes the thing that I want or need isn’t available on my High

Street um it might be that I would have to take a bus ride actually in in some I’m just thinking of this first parcel in particular to get my normal thing I either have to take really quite a long bus ride to one of the

Branches or I would have it sent via the post but then we’re back to that whole thing again about waiting in for deliveries I so hate it and also it occurs to me that once I’ve moved and I live on the ground floor I won’t mind

Deliveries quite so much cuz I can just I hear the doorbell just go straight to the door now I’m not climbing Everest I’m not climbing down Everest to get my parcel and then back up Everest anyway so uh yeah there are a few things every now

And again that I need simply can’t buy them on my High Street so I either have to go to another town or go to the online stuff and that’s what I’ve done on this occasion but the reason I’ve got quite a big stack of things here we are going to

Tuck into them don’t worry the reason I’ve got quite a big stack back of parcels I’ve got four Parcels is because I bought the first one and having done my purchase my order online it said thank for your custom to reward you for your custom please choose

From one of these freebies so I thought oh okay thank you so I chose the freebie and I had to go to a different website different company to claim my freebie and after I claimed my freebie then that second company said said thank you for

Your custom as a way of saying thank you please claim a freebie like this kind of so I did so I ended up this one parcel I’ve ended up with three Parcels then for the last one I renewed my contract with my internet service provider it’s actually 1 a month

Cheaper and I know 1 pound a month cheaper doesn’t seem like much but see in this day and age where it feels like I worked I worked that out I think that’s about 4% it’s about a 4% reduction that just feels amazing at the moment when every other company is going

Up in price so I get my internet with plus net so I’d renewed my contract for another 18 18 months or two years 18 months and they said um to thank you for being a loyal customer customer cuz I’ve been with them forever ever since I’ve had

The Internet it’s been them please pick from one of these freebies so what is going on everyone’s doing freebies actually there’s where a mixture of freebies and offers so that’s that’s what I’ve done now the first thing to say it’s this is really really important there are two really important things to say

Today one um you know what’s the old adage if it seems too good to be true it probably is too good to be true in the instance so I do have bear that in mind but with all of these things I’ve got today they are all things I would be buying anyway and

I think yeah it’s an interesting little selection so with all these these popups kept happening of now now choose a different company you get freebie from a different company all sorts of choice and the one with plusnet that was a whole page of offers and freebies and what have you now

Pretty much all the freebies you do pay for postage so it’s not completely free uh but in some cases a nominal postage charge of a pound I am going to go into the details in a minute but this is really important to make note of um so I had to look through

And there was only one thing I wanted from the plus net list of freebies and offers because the thing is if it’s not something you would be using anyway then you’re not making a saving are you if you um I was trying to think an example of this the other

Day if like I don’t wear perfume I never wear I have I have in the past I I’ve got a little bottle of scent I was giv for my birthday and it’s and it’s lovely so I’ll put it on but I never buy it I just never buy it um so if I

Saw let’s say there’s a bottle of perfume that normally retails for £100 and it’s on offer for 50 Quid you might think wow that’s a massive saving let’s say I’ve got there’s there’s me and there’s my evil twin sister was my dumb as a bucket of rocks twin sister

Twin Vivy and original Vivy and we both have 50 in our bank account and if dumb as a bucket of rocks Vivy goes off and buys that bottle of perfume spends all her money on it and I don’t cuz I don’t wear perfume and then we sit chatting together the next day

With our laptops open and we’re checking our bank accounts and she says to me oh this is fantastic I’ve saved 50 Quid let’s look at your bank account there’s no money in it no you haven’t saved 50 Quid you’ve spent 50 Quid I save 50 Quid

By not spending so yeah just um just bear that in mind when you see freebies and offers if it’s not something that’s on your shopping list anyway even if like with the perfume you think wow that’s an amazing discount it’s 50% off it’s 50 amazing if you weren’t going to

Buy it it’s not it’s not a bargain it’s not a good deal for you because you’re buying something extra um I did see an ad at some point in the new year for you know these what’s it called Pelon you know these kind of running machines or exercise bicycles that

Um they’re they’re they’re attached to the internet I think so they can in real time they can give you a program of activity to do and you can sort of join in with other people doing it it’s like a virtual exercise class I saw an offer

On the tellan it said you could get the machine and a year subscription and it was £500 off what and I thought Cy if they’re doing it at500 off how much does it cost in the first place oh my goodness anyway so that’s that was the main point I wanted to make

About you know an offer even if it’s even if something is 75% off if it’s not something you use then you’re not saving anything at all you’re actually spending the other thing and that’s what we’re coming on to with all of these is quite often and it’s true of

Let me see two it’s true of two of these freebies that you get this freebie as a trial and it’s it’s a sort of a a trial subscription and that’s what we have to be really careful about don’t worry I’m being careful I’ve got it all written up on my pin board

Dates quite often there are these things where you can you can try like I’ve got this freebie and now they’ve got my my my name my information they’ve got my well they don’t store my card details but unless I actively cancel a subscription in other words by signing

Up for the freebie I’m signing up for a subscription so unless I cancel that subscription then in another month’s time Suddenly It’s like what why is £9.99 gone out of my account oh it’s that subscription I didn’t cancel it so yes try things for free get things for

Free but if it’s part of a subscription re be really really really mindful to make a note of of the date by which you must cancel the subscription before the next billing period otherwise you’re going to get into a loop of paying for things which might not be a terrible

Thing if so long as this is something you would buy normally anyway K have gone on loads already but I just think it’s really important it’s not a bargain if it’s not something you wanted in the first place and if it’s part of a subscription scheme make sure you make a

Note of where you must cancel the subscription before the next billing period before the next lock comes through the post now having said that about deliveries what I noticed is three of these four let me show you sideways look at that they’re all letter box sized so that’s great that’s really

Good actually they can just come through the letter box so you know if you work outside of the home or you just have to nip out for your shopping whatever then they can be delivered this one is not letter box size this one made me laugh though

Because this is a delivery guy and he he delivers when I get um cuz it’s bulky things like um the paper that I use for wrapping my shop orders it’s the company I buy that from use his company for delivery anyway so I’ve I’ve I’ve seen

Him a fair bit over the year well in the last three or four five years he was here even before Co anyway I always say Hi how are you have a smile just a little like moment of oh oh it’s really cold or oh it’s really hot isn’t it you know that kind

Of small talk we do on our doorsteps with our delivery guys when he delivered this he had this slightly cheeky look on his face and he sort of went hello like hi thanks and then I read what it says on the box it’s from a company called wild and just there it

Says embrace your Wild Side so it made me laugh cuz I was thinking does he think I’ve got something a bit naughty in here a bit frisky next time I see him I’m going to explain what it is so this is doent I haven’t even I I just took the

Address label off of that um I haven’t opened any of my passes yet wanted to do it with you so my first impression so this is a deodorant and it’s a reduced plastic the idea is it’s reduced plastic now talking of that going to a shop um for years I’ve been using a

Deodorant from Lush really like it and it has no packaging whatsoever so when you go to the shop it’s in it’s in a tray and they cut a piece off for you no packaging so at home for ease of use I used to wrap a bit of greas proof paper around the

Bottom but it but when it gets right to the end it’s really fiddly to use so I am going to be having plastic what is it metal oh no it’s plastic but it’s it’s not single use so this should be my now forever deodrant um what’s that bit do obviously

I’ll look at the instructions in a minute no I won’t just going to fiddle with it and break it um now the reason I went for this this is what I mean about the offers I saw an offer on I think it was on it was it was on it

Was an advert on a YouTube video I think maybe but it said 20% off so the holder normally is £10 and then can I smell through I’ve got a selection box of flavors Purple Rain which has got a bit of pachuli in it this one oh oh I think that one’s

Cotton and then Ocean Mist H all nice and fresh so the holder is normally £10 and each refill is normally £8 so it would be 34 P it’s quite a lot of money isn’t it 34 quid so I went onto their website and they have a bundle like a starter

Kit Holder and and three different flavors and they had it uh so that normally retails at £28 so getting the bundle already brings that price down a little bit but they also had an offer in January they brought it down to £25 for everything so oh that’s good

That’s n quid off now and then I thought I wonder if this discount code I picked up on you know from an advert will still work it’s already been discounted any one way to find out apply it apply the discount code it worked so £34 to buy separately normally everything there

Cost2 so actually that that’s normally £10 so I’ve got all my refills for 10 quid £3 three3 35 each instead of 8 quid each so that’s what I mean about about offers and stuff if this if this isn’t something I mean I think we all use deod

Pretty much most people use deod don’t they but um like if this was perfume it would not have been a deal it wouldn’t have been a bargain because you wouldn’t use it but deoen I do use and oh there’s my instructions up at the top so that’s Fab I think

Um what’s all that yeah there so that is all I think if you look at it sideways look there’s the there’s the size of the holder next to the I think they could get their packaging reduced reduced packaging is always good and therefore make it letter box size I

Might get in touch with them to suggest that um but yes I’m I have no idea I have no idea what it’ll be like I’ve never used it before but my attitude is well eight I need de oent B uh I normally have to get my Lush deant sent through the

Post and I think if I remember correctly um it’s been a while cuz actually the last time I bought my de was actually in the store cuz I happen to be in a neighborhood um but I think it’s about £6.95 post or 5.95 basically it it

All for the lump size of lump I buy it almost doubles the price just the postage so yeah I’m I’m really looking forward to trying that and of course things like ingredients wise and all that everything it’s it’s obviously it’s against animal testing as you would why do why does

Getting rid of my myess personal details hang on a tick sorry I realized I needed a pair of scissors as well to get these packages open okay so the next thing so I I I got the doent and then there were two different offers um I can’t remember

What the other one was but obviously it’s not something I would use I think it might have been like Spar treat or something or other but the other one was one of these food recipe box schemes and I thought and it was to try it for a quidd now again it’s

One of these subscription ones so I have to cancel make sure I cancel but I thought yeah I would um yeah a quid I’ll try I’ll try a different meal because I’m going to I I eat anyway I am I need to eat now most of my meals like

Main meals we’re talking now I would say that most of my main meals I do make them probably for for less than a pound sometimes a pound sometimes a bit more but generally less but I thought you know what for a pound for a

Meal I I’ll be up for that I’m up for that and um yeah I mean if I was eating out you’re not going to get a meal for a quid are you and I also thought and you know might be a new it’ll be a new recipe that’s always fun

Great so I went online um what’s it called food box no I’ve lost the name of it I’ll find the name of it in a minute so ordinarily it would be $9.99 so I thought oh yeah I am getting a bargain but $9.99 seems quite a lot um I I

Opened it up and I I think there was something like about 100 145 different recipes different meals to choose from and then there’s a filter so I clicked on the filter for vegetarian and that reduced it to 60 different meals of which I think 14 were vegan I don’t know

If they were strictly vegan or if they were cuz there were a couple of the veggy recipes I looked at and it said you know or you know like there would be cheese in it and it said like omit if you’re vegan so it’s like ah so is that

What they’re CL so they’re classing it as vegan if you leave something out anyway 60 different meals to choose from so I thought that’s quite a good choice but I actually I actually struggled to find anything I really fancied cuz a lot of it was Eastern

Stuff so you know when you think of all the food cultures of Europe like I Italian oh Italian Greek Turkish Lebanese all those Mediterranean food cultures I love Spanish in I mean France France is a major food culture in the whole world isn’t it so but there was hardly anything hardly anything from

Europe all this stuff was very sort of um you know curries lots of curries lots of Indian foods lots of Thai foods again lots of Thai curries all and I was like they’re all everything’s quite spicy as well now I love spices I love the flavor

The Taste the warmth I don’t want me head to be blown off with heat so I went through and I was looking and looking I found things that were a bit milder I thought yeah well i’ I’d be happy to eat that let’s go ahead um and if if needs

Be I can reduce the quantity of spice I add so I clicked on the one I fancied and then it said please select three more meals I was like wow wow I’m really getting a bar you know for a quid I’m going to get four meals brilliant so I

Went through collect I clicked on all my four meals absolutely I’m toughed like you know and then I thought for $9.99 a month or $9.99 for each subscription of four I thought well £250 a meal that’s probably seems quite cheap for someone who eats out but for me I wouldn’t

Continue the subscription at250 per meal because I can make my food much cheaper but a quid for four yeah I’m having that 25 P of meal let’s have it and then it arrived and now I know why everything was so spicy because this arrived and I thought oh that must be the first

Part no what a let me show you so I’ve gone for a mushroom risato so inside I’m seeing this for the first time with you all there are my four meals there are no all they send are the spices there’s no food in it you have to

Do all your own food shopping they just do the spices obviously the the menu the menus have come with it so I went for I mean I don’t know what I honestly I honestly thought all the ingredients were included so I went from mushroom and PE risoto cuz I love mushroom risotto love

PE risotto I thought oh yeah I’ll have that a mushroom isort 25p I’ve gone for this Mexican tinger I don’t know we’ll ignore um I’m not expecting anyone or anything and then a Goen cauliflower Curry and the last thing chickpea um cofa flat breads I just

Yeah I mean would you pay 10 quid for that each each well you can have this delivered every week every two weeks every four weeks whatever but 10 quid a month or how sorry 10 quid for four just that’s so in other words this would be

£250 because the thing with the how did you get in I’m Le the thing with the recipes is recipes basically they’re free these days aren’t they you can look on the internet look online I’ve shared a load of recipes with you um go to the library so this is what’s inside ah I’m

Going to write to Wild and say this is not a suitable company to give a freebie because look it’s plastic pots or they recyclable our kits and pots are 100% recyclable just keep the pot lids attached so that’s a bit of white wine reduction what’s this one for

Risoto that is risotto stock I guess I’ve got to add water to it and that is powdered mushrooms so on a normal day that would be 250 in the normal kit I don’t think that’s worth it I’m I’m really disappointed I feel it it probably do you know what it probably

Had it on the small print I was going say I don’t I don’t when I I feel conned I don’t think they are trying to con people but I just feel a bit conned cuz I thought I was getting a meal kicked and and on Clos inspection it

Does say you know it’s a recipe kit but yeah I will I will un I mean I was going to unsubscribe straight away anyway because I’m not going to pay £10 for four even if they were complete meals I wouldn’t I wouldn’t spend 250 on

A complete meal so that can go anyway so that’s a bit of a disappointment once I’d ordered those four meals it’s been like a a a rabbit going down Rabbit Hole did I say how much it was the yeah it was one it was £

For that cook box and that was for you know postage so after after I’d placed my order for that and done my here’s here’s my one pound for the postage uh it then flashed up thank you for your custom here are some offers you may be interested in so then I’ve gone

For this company called groom which is beauty beauty products it’s it’s all solid bar it’s all solid bar stuff cleaning things so shampoo bar now are these full sized or is this for their trial these three bars Face bar I mean I use the same on

My face and my body but okay A Face bar a body bar o orange and grapefruit oh my God they’re tiny maybe this is is that a sample size is that the normal cuz I was going to say they they retail at £7 each and this offer was they are free

But you paid £2.95 postage so I thought well that’s £1 P per bar that’s worth it if they’re normally 7 quid I’m going to check online because if that’s normally £7 that’s an absolute flipping ripoff however I don’t want to discs the company uh without all the

Facts so this is 35 G maybe the bars did is there any paper in there with it any explanation no so maybe the bar is normally 50 g I would hope 100 G at least anyway so look that’s a pack but there’s also this is the shampoo

Bar is this a bit bigger This Is 50 g oh okay so I don’t feel too badly now that’s nice gentle scent so that is quite thick big so so yeah I mean that’s sort of size one in in Lush or wherever that’s sort of six seven quid isn’t

It so I paid a quid for that don’t mind I think that actually a quid for that that’s good but the um but the two washing bars at a pound oh I don’t know that’s a bit weird that’s the face one and anyway

So look I I this is what I mean about do is it something you you would use anyway yes I use shampoo bars anyway so to get all these little cleansing bars and shampoo bar for three quid great because I would pay I would pay more than3 for a bar of shampoo

Anyway so it’s like oh excuse me it’s like I’ve got a barrow shampoo for half price and then these are free add-ons so even without these two that’s a bargain if I paid the if I paid all three quid just for that that’s still a bargain so that’s okay but um

And that one so the company is Groom and again you know letter box size that’s not a subscription so I don’t have to worry about cancelling with them um oh my goodness got a gide up Fey and then the very last thing excuse me um one thing I didn’t mention about deliveries and internet shopping and all

That sort of thing is is how useful it can be if you’re poorly or you know if you have mobility issues and for example like I did have that surgery on my knee a few years ago it wasn’t a new replacement it was they were just trying

To cut some something away but for a couple of weeks I was not going outside I was kind of laid up so now here it’s kind of stupid cuz if I had a delivery I’d have to go all the way down the stairs can’t do it I couldn’t do it on

My knee but like oh yeah so when I had covid I could do that I could go downstairs and um uh yeah it was a food delivery food delivery I had groceries so it is useful and one thing that you know it’s obviously that’s a lot on my

Mind at the moment about moving is how far away from my High Street am I going to have to move in order to find property I can afford cuz the roads immediately around the High Street are beautiful it’s the Posh bits they’re really they’re all really

Expensive so it may mean that I have to move a mile two miles away from The High Street and what if I don’t get a bus pass and all that there’s no way I was going to say I could manage a mile but if I’m two miles there’s no way

I’m walking two miles with shopping I just can’t manage it it won’t happen so part of my mindset at the moment as well is well if that happens okay maybe there is something you can have delivered just lighten that burden with the shopping so one thing would be this is laundry

Detergent so like said I’ve never tried this company before but this was with this is one of the offers that came up with plusnet and this is let me just try and remember where’s me bits and ah now this is a subscription so this is one of

The ones I don’t know how to get in child lock child lock never mind child lock Vivy luck this is one of the ones that I will have to cancel because for now where I get my laundry liquid refilled cuz that’s the other thing isn’t it I get it refilled it’s even

Better that’s almost on my doorstep where I can get it refilled great so this is kind of just having a little forign to stuff for the future because what if that refill shop closes it’s a tiny little shop maybe I don’t anyway I hope it doesn’t but if that were to

Close how do you get in oh my goodness oh no tear this tear that there’s there’s four okay this there’s loads and loads of I’m pushing I’m pushing oh my God this D me a bit in I can’t get it out I know it’s got to be child I’m just

Ripping into it now now oh for goodness sakes for goodness sakes anyway I’m in um so yeah detergent and then yeah sort of no packaging and it’s supposed to be it’s not too much of a scent it’s supposed all the products are supposed to be um you know not that they don’t

Contain parabens and some of that really horrid stuff uh I wonder if it will say it on here I want it to say it’s a lower chemical concentration cruelty free vegan 100% plastic free Carbon cut Cuts carbon by 35% but it’s more about the actual ingredients as well it’s paraben free and sulfate

Free and all that kind of stuff so I thought you know what I’ll give it a go um because yeah like I said it just it’s just an extra option isn’t it at some point further down the line maybe I’ll I’ll be in a position where I think no I

I only want this kind of stuff delivered I’ve got nowhere in my immediate vicinity to buy it so let’s have it delivered however I am going to unsubscribe sorry I can’t remember how much now the the the cost the normal cost they do all s this small these

Small people they do um so for instance you know your your your cleaner your multi- Surface Cleaner they do you can buy a bottle from them um like the empty bottle but they the refill it all comes concentrated so you pop the refill in there and add water cuz so if you look

At any of your cleaners you look at the ingredients you’ll see aqua water is one of the first ingredients so yeah they do all sorts they do um laundry detergent I think they do dishwasher tablets and of course it’s all wrapped but none of it’s plastic that’s their thing it’s

Plasticfree packaging and reduced plastic so they do do bottles that you can buy from them to put your multi-purpose surface spray into from that point on you never need to have plastic CU you’re refilling each time so I’ll give them a go I’m going to cancel

The subscription but give them a go and then further down the line if I think oh I really liked that or it may be that further down the line I want to go right back to the beginning and go back to biod who in terms

Of all the tick boxes that I want from a company both in terms of the ingredients the manufacturing process plastic all those different things are on my on my list that I want to tick biod just do them all so I might go back to them but it’s an option isn’t it
