Man, another gigantic loss for the LA food community.

I learned so much from Jered and everyone at his Melrose butcher shop. When you walked in, Jered often greeted you by name and recommended items based on your past orders. He was always eager to share his knowledge and would answer any questions about what was in the case that day. The summertime burger pop-ups had the best burger in the city, and I was looking forward to having access to them full-time when the Venice location opened.

It’s just a heartbreaking and sad situation all around. I don’t know about the future of the shop, but hope the best for everyone involved with it. The team there is full of amazing people.

Thanks for everything you did, Jered! Rest in power!

  1. Damn – that’s a loss. I loved his shop and would stop anytime I was in the area. RIP.

A terrible loss to the community. One of the best butchers imo and everyone was always so kind when I went in. So sad.

  3. That burger pop-up was incredible. Only had it once when I first moved into the area in 2019 and don’t think I ever crossed paths with him again after that, but he was really nice that day. RIP

Oh noooo- I used to live a couple blocks away and loved shopping there for fancy dinners. How sad.

This is crushing. My wife and I loved Standing’s. Jered was super friendly every time we went in. Horrible news.

I took a few of his butchery classes, he was a great teacher and a really nice guy.

    Very sad

Incredibly heartbreaking. His shop was the only place I would purchase my meats from. He was always so kind and helpful. I wish his loved ones well as they manage through the grief.

  8. I had my first date with my now husband at the Standings burger pop up. They also always gave my pup awesome unadulterated treats. RIP Jered

Dude was the best butcher in town. He’d hand cut anything I wanted on the spot and then give awesome advice on how to cook it. This is so sad. RIP

Standings became a staple for me in 2020 at the top of the pandemic. Jered and Jose became my friends over the years. I was messaging with Jered on Thursday. I cannot believe he’s gone.
I’m grateful to have known him, but I am absolutely gutted right now.

Has anyone heard if the retail shop will fold without him? I haven’t seen any posts on their IG, I know he was the sole owner, I’m hoping someone on his staff can take it over and continue.

So sad. Mental health struggles are so difficult. Even with access to resources, it’s a difficult journey for so many of us. Such a loss for LA. Praying he’s at peace now.

Had his burgers in front of Domaine LA during a wine tasting and they were excellent. A believe he was the man at the grill. Sad news indeed.

I just read this and am absolutely gutted. I just spoke to him a couple of weeks ago and then called and talked on the phone. I can’t believe he’s gone.
